I have been told that the Cadillac Northstar often has this problem. Some people prefer to get a replacement Northstar engine rather than go through this procedure.

Thanks for your videos, I am a huge fan.

John, question about piston rings in the M54 engine. I understand that the very common high oil consumption (1 quart/1000 miles) is due to wear in the oil rings, which were of a different type than the M52TU engine. What do you recommend to fix this problem? Aftermarket rings? M52TU oil rings? Thanks!

And that is why BMW stands for Broke My Wallet!

Love it. Do you sell fixtures like this for any other engines?  Or is this only something you do as a mobil service?

How do you find the exact hole spacing for the jig john? X-Y from the mill table using the  head?

My son-in-law is just getting started with the auto machine shop business. How do you determine what to charge for this job?

Are the timecerts strong enough for head torque over the long run?

I've got an extra set of cast spindles that I want to have the caliper bolt holes drilled, retapped, and timecerts installed because it's common for some idiot to over tighten the bolt and strip the hole.

Why wouldn't you use a hand crank. Just curious.

looks like you are using a time sert on that i have been working on these cars for 8 years now. the only way to a headgasket job on aluminum blocked bmw's is time sert them or any other alloy block.

So it's not a steal insert. Your actually just rethreading and using larger head bolts?

Hi, I learned to screw the tap in one turn and back out half a turn. Are you doing something different?

Another good example of the 6Ps "perfect preparation prevents piss-poor performance" go the extra mile to do the job well, often quicker in the end too.

I've heard of this happening often on BMWs, but never on aluminium block Alfas. It may be that BMWs have higher compression ratios, or tend to overheat more.

Those are some shallow head bolt holes. No wonder why they strip.

look at all that cheap black plastic.  BMW's are so poorly built now, they should call them "disposable motor works"!
