Did you know that LEGO Marvel’s Avengers’ New York hub is copied from a different game?

While it also includes Washington, D.C., a S.H.I.E.L.D. facility, Tony Stark’s mansion, Clint Barton’s safehouse, Asgard, Sokovia and South Africa, its Manhattan map is taken straight out of LEGO Marvel Super Heroes, blinking Statue of Liberty and all. Well, not all of it.

You see, as this game primarily adapts the Marvel Cinematic Universe, TT Games opted to remove references to parts of Marvel that weren’t, at least, at the time, part of the MCU, like the X-Men, Fantastic Four and Deadpool.

Notable changes include the X-Mansion being replaced by the Avengers Compound, the Daily Bugle losing its branding and the Baxter Building being outright deleted from existence. Even billboards featuring specific characters have been taken over by Roxxon and Pym.

It also extends to the Helicarrier, which is pretty much identical except for you losing flight privileges and Deadpool’s room being replaced by a portal to the Collector’s room.

And while Spider-Man did end up being added to the game in a free character pack, his villains weren’t so lucky, with both Oscorp and Fisk Tower similarly being replaced. It also takes place during the sunset instead of midday, which looks pretty neat!

"Did you know that LEGO Marvel’s Avengers’ New York hub is copied from a different game?" I would be extremely concerned if people didn't know this

Super heroes is better, all the small references to comics scattered around the city like kronos corporation, the background music is top tier and the sunset in avengers is nauseating

So, fun story. Back in 2014, my family didnt own a console, so I would beg my parents every month to go to our local Currys PC World (a tech shop in the UK), and use the xbox on display to play the demo of Lego Marvel Superheroes. As it was a demo, I never got past the intro mission with sand man and abomination, but it was so fun every now and then just to go into store and play the game. And later that year, that was when my parents got me the Xbox one and I played Lego Marvel Superheroes for ages.

it'd be kinda hard not to notice they're mostly the same map.

LMSH was my shit as a kid, just switching characters and roaming through the city was the best

There are a few differences, but the biggest thing for me was there being no crimes in Lego Marvel 1 so there was nothing to do in the open world once you completed everything

Unpopular opinion: Avengers did it better. City is more refined, clean, and playable. Not to mention the additional hubs added on top of that

Also the Empire State Building for some reason has the top of the Chrysler building

Thanks for showing the differences, Sophie! I always wondered what exactly changed besides a few of the ohvious ones.

I personally prefer the Lighting of the first game. But I must admit, the sequel allowing you to explore the greatest location-- Asgard-- in any Marvel media was amazing.

Still waiting for LMS3. Now that the X-Men and Fantastic Four are back, they will have to be in the third game. LMS is still the best because it has them in it.

The only thing that I think is better in lego marvel avengers. Is the fact that there's speedsters in it! Which makes travel through the city so much fun!

Love both, but I find superheroes better bc it has Daily Bugle, House of X, Oscorp, and Baxter Building as well. Feels like actual 616, but Lego. Avengers is great, but it’s (universe itself is while sacred timeline is 616), however, it gives nostalgia from back when the MCU was great so it’s a close second.

I want them to make a fourth game, with a New York hub similar to the first game with Baxter Building, Oscorp, Daily Bugle ect, then you can make ad additional hubs of Asgard, Latveria, Wakanda, The Avenger's compound, The X-Mansion(in the style of the College from Indiana Jones) The Helicarrier, Knowhere, Kronos, Nova Corp and maybe a few other small locations in the comics.

About the sunset... I wish these games had a day-night cycle.

I don't know why but the city in Super Heroes seems bigger to me than the one in Lego Avengers, they really need to make a Lego Marvel Super Heroes 3 with a bigger NYC

These 2 games need to be Remaster with day and night cycles, including weather cycles

They should’ve never deleted the X-men and Fantastic Four characters, because Avengers feels empty without them

LMSH 1 had more MARVEL and I'll always prefer it. It's original storyline and colourful cast of characters is IMENSE. Avengers was decent and LMSH2 i just can't get behind.
