Why buy a speaker cabinet when you can build your own. Quick build and sound demo.

Building your own cabinet will normally render a better product than what you can purchase because you're using solid wood and not particle board or MDF wood. You can also select if you wish an open or closed back cabinet and as well change the speaker grill material.

My cabinet dimensions were base on the most common height and dept for a cabinet. The width was based on the number of speakers being inserted... in this case just one 12".

WIDTH = 22.5 inches (57.2 centimeters)
HEIGHT = 18.5 inches (46.9 centimeters)
DEPTH = 11 inches (27.9 centimeters)

Wood used = Hard Maple Plywood

Paint = Miniwax Polyshades - Red Stain

Speaker = Celestion Rocket 50. (Note this speaker is an average speaker and was used only for the demo of this video. It works find when used with other high quality speakers).

Sound demo at the end of the video was recorded with the camera microphone.

Music playing during the construction of the speaker cabinet is by the band Calista, available for purchase on iTunes.

Excellent! just over 4 minutes and not an unnecessary word. All do it yourself videos should be as good as this. Cant thanks you

That lick at the end is sick. And the cab is sick. This is sick. I am sick.

I think this is one of the coolest videos I've ever seen....no seriously....a guy takes a dream to reality and then proceeds to savoy it with delight...doesn't get any better than that....maybe Howard Hughes had the "Spruce Goose"....but this "pay-off" is the same...

Extra tip: use a hair-dryer to heat up the grill cloth. It'll tighten and yield a better looking final product.

I think I'll build one or two of these with an extra jack for parallel hook up. I'll probably skip the corners and handle and just put a used amp handle from a throw away amp. Thanks for making this video. It's very helpful.

Loved the rockin out at the end! That's what it's all about! Great job man.

Awesome tutorial! I'm thinking about doing this since all the speaker cabs I find are so freakin' expensive! While I can find decent heads relatively cheaply. And after building myself a guitar already, this seems so easy! lol

Nice simple build!
I wondered why you made it so big, then I see you made it similar in size to your existing Orange cab.
Dig the "collide" track and your playing too! Keep rockin!

This is a great guide to a bare-bones tolex-free cabinet. The only thing that I would've added -which is an easy addition- is to spray paint the baffle behind the grill cloth black so you can't see through it easy.

Wow that's so cool. I have an old peavey 4x12 cab I could get the speakers from. I'm so making a 2x12 can now. Cheers.

Thanks! That speaker box is getting a lot of use. I've since replaced the speaker with a Celestion Vintage 30 for a bit more of a classic rock sound.
