"I've been drivin' this truck for a year now and I still mess up sometimes". I love that, that inspires confidence for anyone thinking of going for their CDL, you could be a driver of 25 years and still miss gears, it'll happen. Thanks for doing this video man it was really informative, keep it up.

took my cdl driver's test on a 9spd. instructor said" put me to sleep on this drivers test you pass". after 4 hours of driving I looked over in the jump seat, he was out. that was in 1976.

I sincerely have respect for manual truck drivers, such a lot of different action going on along with traffic and heavy loads 👍🏻

Dude mad respect. I’m 2 weeks into training, and people just don’t know the coordination it takes to do what you just did.

When you're double clutching and getting the hang of it every time you shift say this in your head; Clutch to neutral, clutch to gear. This is the exact speed you want to shift at. When you're done saying "Clutch to neutral" you should be in neutral. When you're done saying clutch to gear - it should be in gear.

Man to this day I look back and watch your videos over and over again. You inspired me to get my CDL and for the last 8 months I worked as a company driver in an automatic. An opportunity came up to work for a small local company hauling steel in and out of the steel mills in the midwest. I took it and said yes right away. Slight problem though...I havent driven a manual truck since trucking school. I was super nervous and did not want to make a fool out of myself. So I came back and watched your videos. Even the ones that were not about shifting because I just paid attention to how you were shifting and floating through the gears. I have been out training with the owner for a month now and he has been very patient with me. I can now say I feel very comfortable going out on my own. Thanks for the great content and honestly cant wait until you can get everything sorted out and get back on the road.

I can’t imagine driving something and shifting through gears using a Warlocks staff.

Interesting. As a nontrucker, I've always wondered about all of the shifting ranges

Great video, I especially like the part where you admit to making mistakes. I am tired of all these supertruckers that have never made a mistake and laugh at you instead of trying to help you at a truck stop.

Well because of this video and because of watching Smokey and the Bandit on repeat 10 million times, I found the inspiration I needed to get into Trucking. We're going to do what they say can't be done!

When I got my cdl, my dad taught me the technique of "ghost double-clutching." All that's involved is that you move your leg, but only move the clutch pedal maybe half an inch. Then, just to make instructors, and the tester happy, I'd double-clutch on a downshift.

Trust me, the ghost double-clutching trick saved my left leg, knee, and hip much trouble. Afterwards, I taught myself floating and had so much more fun shifting.

I drive an 8 speed dump truck and I know how to float gears up and down and skip gears. I drove a 10 speed in class A cdl school. I’m going to go OTR for experience then after a year buy my own Peterbilt. I want an 18 speed. This was easy to learn and watch cause I know the concept of shifting and floating gears. Thanks a lot for this video bro keep em wheel rolling 🙏 drive safe!

Great video. Less then 6 months with CDL. Drive a 10 speed. Constantly grinding gears....thanks for the info

My big challenge back in school was pressing the clutch deep enough to where the gear engaged smoothly. Instructor wondered why I had trouble with that and figured it might be because of my long legs - i.e. less leverage on the pedal, and I believe that’s true. It seemed like I had to put a hell of a lot more effort into the clutching than others to achieve the same result.

Good job shifting man! That was my problem because I was taught and always just floated the gears but then they said I had to double clutch for the test and it took me a minute to get use to hitting that clutch! Thanks for sharing

A 15 speed splitter lever is blue. Drove a 10 speed that had an aux over/under could split top and bottom of main box. Pretty cool kit.
