Science lesson on selective breeding:

It's a process that takes a very long time, to say, get a wolf to a chihuahua, but it's possible. Basically, you breed 2 wolves, and the child may have slight difference from the adults. You *select* the child with the desired traits, and breed that dog. For example, you breed dogs and only continue breeding the dogs with longer legs. Eventually, because you only selected the dogs with the longest legs, you will have a dog with... long legs. In the case of a chihuahua, at that time, people only selected the smallest dog, until the dogs became noticeably smaller.

1:29 For those who may not have noticed: The OP here is correct. The writing on the "ecnalubma" is done wrong. It's supposed to be *mirrored, * but it's actually just *spelled backwards* instead. This means that when viewed in a mirror, letters like the E, C, N, L and B will actually show up backwards and it will still look wrong. (it will probably still be technically readable, but...)

“When it comes to deciding gender, it is on the man”
Women have XX chromosomes, men have XY chromosomes. The sex of the baby is determined by whether the father passes their X or Y chromosome down, whereas the mother always passes an X chromosome down.
Obv men don’t consciouly control that though

1:35 this guy IS correct, he's just confused. The word "ambulance" is MIRRORED on the front, though in this case whoever put it in there goofed since it's spelled backwards but with all the letters forward.

18:23 As someone who has a twin of the opposite gender, people over complicate this when it’s literally as simple as “if they have different reproductive organs, they are NOT identical”.

Edit: Yes same sex twins can be fraternal or identical. But if they’re identical they are the same gender.

Selective breeding is breeding 2 living things (including plants, I’ll get into that) in order to exaggerate a trait.

For example, to disprove our dear friend in the video, you want a small wolf. So, you take 2 wolves that are smaller than the others and breed them. Then, if you want smaller wolves, you breed the smallest wolf of that litter with another wolf, and so on, until over thousands of years you get a chihuahua. Just breed the smallest wolves until you get the smallest of the small.

As for plants, you just plant the seeds of the plant you want to exaggerate. If you want big strawberries, you take the biggest strawberry off a bush and plant it. Then, you take the biggest strawberry of the subsequent bush and plant it. Eventually, you get the biggest strawberries possible.

In conclusion, selective breeding is a real thing that has been understood for a long time, which itself is how we have different dog breeds or different size or taste fruits: just choosing to breed the traits you like to the extreme. So yeah.

TLDR: Yes, selective breeding does exist, causing dog breeds.

Hope this helps.

7:09 Titanoboa, not Titanboa, was the largest snake to exist of all time, not largest reptile because there were larger reptiles, including the dinosaurs, which were reptiles but not lizards. And Titanoboa was after the time of the dinosaurs, having evolved into life just a few thousand years after the dinosaurs went extinct.

Side point: dinosaurs did, in fact, exist

14:02 As a Panda myself, I am qualified to speak on Pandas. Pandas are bears. They have simply chosen to feed solely on a plant that is in no way optimal for them to survive on instead of eating typical food for bears.

As a bonus, seeing as I am also Australian, I am qualified to speak on koalas as well. Koalas are not bears. But their unoptimised eating habits are just as stupid as Pandas.

Any time I see the phrase ‘Confidently Incorrect’, I think of that guy holding a pineapple to his camera and confidently saying “Mango!”

14:12 "Panda" originally refers to the red panda, these small red critters with the stripy tails. The black-and-white panda bear is named after this original red panda.

A guy used selective breeding to unflatten pugs faces. It's supposed to be healthier, I can't describe how, but he has produced a pug without a flat face.

8:55 I assume they're saying how women have two X chromosomes, while men have both an X and a Y, so the women can only give an X, and it's up the the man to provide either another X or a Y. However, the gender which provides the gender changing chromosome and the chromosomes themselves differ between species.

4:05 Off the top of my head (so take with a grain of salt lmao) selective breeding is specifically breeding for traits. With the example, you'd get a chihuahua from a wolf (over a LONG period of time) by only breeding the smallest ones together until you kept getting tinier and tinier canines (among whatever other traits chihuahuas have idk)

Used to work as a barista, coffee with chocolate powder in is a mocha. A cappuccino is similar to a latte, but with stretched milk, making it frothier.

Sounds like the customer wanted neither anyway, just a straight latte with some chocolate powder sprinkled on top. Good thing they arent working there anymore lol

fun anecdote about selective breeding: there's the Silver Fox project that came out of Russia where the specific process was taking the population of wild foxes, breeding them, then selecting the most human-friendly children, and going down the generations like that

That is the ONLY trait they selected for - friendliness

As they continued with these traits, two other traits came to the fore in the new population, variable coats (i.e. coat patterns) and floppy ears.
