When I was in undergrad I took a class called “the biology of hope and belief” that was all about how religions and faith systems have evolved over time. When my very Christian mother found out about it, she was upset and called it pseudoscience. I just told her to think of it as the study of how every other religion besides Christianity came to be- after which she thought the class was a great idea. The cognitive dissonance was mind numbing 🙃

This shouldn’t even be a surprise. Religion evolves. Look at the many branches of abrahamic faith like, Judism, Christianity, Islam, Mormon. If it didn’t evolve none of these distinctions would be here.

Decades ago, as an atheist, I agreed to my sons, at a 'non-demoninational' school, attending comparative religion classes.
I later withdrew them - physically - from a forced act of church worship!!
And found that 'comparative religion' consisted of teaching what was right about Protestant Christianity and wrong about every other belief system.

The head teacher admitted he was an ordained pastor, and regarded his rank dishonesty as a holy responsibility to god.
Amazingly, he kept his job. The attitude of the local population was that no-one could possibly defy a pastor.

But he didn't escape my unrelenting attention until my kids left that school.
