In the words of the infamous Scholar SpongeBob SquarePants: I'm Ready

I think he covered mirrors and windows for the spirits not to be able to escape trough the mirrors. Truly horrific story.

The recent Idaho slayings are the modern day Villisca Axe murder case and it goes to show that you can sleep through a brutal killing happening right beside you. I pray for all of the victims in these two horrific and chilling stories and that one day there will be justice for all.

The Man from the Train by Bill James absolutely nails this case. I love the connection they make to the German farm case.

This entire case scares me. Your home should be you safe place not get murdered when you sleep.

The most frustrating thing about this case is the neighbors/townspeople who had absolutely no respect for the investigation and obviously not for the family. I know people are nosy, but that is just awful.

Just imagine how many killers, from back in the day that have gotten away with their crimes, that you may be related to 😬

The fact that the father got the most blows makes me think that it was personal.

This story has always intrigued me. I’ve always heard that the killer was hiding in the attic waiting for everyone to go to bed. Which ever way is true, this case still creeps me out.

As for the covered mirrors, during the Victorian Era it was common to cover the mirrors and other reflective surfaces in the home after a death to prevent the soul of the deceased getting trapped by the reflection. Many people still practice this and other Victorian funeral traditions well into the 1920’s.

It's so weird that cops back then really let people into crime scenes. And those people took souvenirs like knick-knacks from the homes, hair brushes or in this case, skull fragments.

Did they ever look into the brother as a suspect? Conveniently had a spare set of keys. Knew the layout. Conveniently destroyed the only camera taking photos that would have been helpful to the case. Seemed personal. Killed the father first and most brutally. Hmm.

The doors were locked as Josiah was obsessive-compulsive about that. And Ross, his brother, unlocked the door with his key the next morning. So, this means whoever did it, had a key to lock it with. If the doors were unlocked, then Ross could not have unlocked it. But Ross had a key, and knew it was locked because he did not check the door handle before using the key. So why would Ross not check the door to see if it were locked, but automatically unlocked it? He testified that Josiah was always concerned about locking the door.

Ross did it. The last one out who locks the door is the one with the key.

When I was a kid, I remember leaving windows open and doors unlocked at night. You didn't hear about things like this, I guess we was just too trusting.

The intruder never had to walk past the children's bedroom because the parents bedroom was right at the top of the stairs

So something I thought about as far as the mirrors and such being covered, what if it had nothing to do with hiding the murders but more so the superstition of trapping the souls of the dead?

I also want to say thank you for doing these podcasts I love listening to all of your and Kendall’s podcasts. You’re hard work on gathering and presenting all the information you guys do is much appreciated. I hope you guys have a wonderful holiday season and that Holly has a wonderful time.
