OnePlus 12 vs Pixel 8 Pro: Premium Price Tags

Google is nudging up the price of the Pixel just as OnePlus is making more of a play to undercut other expensive phones. It's a close fight on paper, but which would be the right fit for your needs?

Both of these phones were supplied by their respective manufacturers for review purposes. No editorial influence has been offered or requested from either company or any associated PR.

Have both but the Pixel 8 Pro has been sitting in a drawer since I got the OP 12. The cameras on OnePlus have gotten so good that I just dont feel I am making a massive compromise by choosing it anymore.

I think many consumers, if you are a long-time Android user, battery life is in the top 3 needs for Android. While both of these phones have better battery life than in previous years, oneplus is killing it for longevity and charging time. For me when i forget to charge my phone and then realize I'm going to be out and not near a charger, in the time that i shower and get ready to head out to work or play my oneplus will be charged to 100%. If the oneplus adapts some of the Google features like call screening or samsung circle to search, i can see myself using this phone for a few years.

I really like my Pixel 8 Pro but bought a One Plus 12 last week just to try it out. I've had it since Friday and I have quickly realized how little I use those AI features on my pixel. I had it configured to auto call screen any "suspicious" or "spam" calls but basically as soon as the google assistant introduces itself the person on the other end hangs up. I have achieved the same result by enabling call filtering on my OnePlus 12 to just send suspicious/spam calls directly voicemail. Direct my call has never worked for me and while I used to love Hold For Me these days I'm rarely if ever on hold because support is much easier to do over chat or email than to deal with a call center.

Overall the QoL features, fast charging/amazing battery life, and raw performance of the One Plus 12 has me strongly considering keeping it as my daily driver over the Pixel 8 Pro. I also got the Gcam app port on the One Plus so it uses googles picture computation on the One Plus. Both phones are great but is anybody really out here recomposing and heavily editing their photos into something else with AI? Other than to show it off to friends or horse around? I'll admit the pixel takes a better pick up and point pic, but the One Plus 12 is not that far behind in most cases and does more than well enough for posting on social media etc. I wish Google would go back to using flagship snapdragon processors on their phones.

Love my OnePlus 12 but the Pixel 8 Pro is a great option. It's a great time to be team Android, the iSheep are so jealous right now haha

IMO the OnePlus 12 demolishes the Pixel 8 Pro. IDC about software because I can change the software to whatever I want on both of these phones (they both support unlocking the bootloader). The hardware is just WAY better on the OnePlus 12 and the Pixel doenst come anywhere close to making up the gap

Im currently rocking my Oneplus 11, I dont feel is worth the upgrade to either of them, but if I had to choose, I would pick the Oneplus 12 just becasue the 11 works flawlessly great and Im loving the greenish color, but man that baby blue in the P8 Pro is so cool !

OnePlus 12 is the better phone. Pixel AI features aren't enough to pick it over the OnePlus 12. See that i left out "camera" from the Pixel. Thats because yes the Pixels camera is amazing. But its not enough anymore to pick the Pixel over other flagships anymore. OnePlus camera is more than good enough for whatever you put it through. Google needs to stop banking on the camera every year. And Im a die hard Pixel fan. I have the Pixel 7 pro. Its sad for me to say. It will be my last Pixel unless Google really switches up things.

Excellent reviews as always. Could I ask how OP 12 compares to Xiaomi 14. Especially in camera.

I'm definitely digging the OnePlus over the Pixel, it's a more compelling package for me, plus it's cheaper. Always appreciate the depth of your reviews!

I have my OP12 stopping charging at 80% and I can still get two days out of it with regular youtube and clash of clans use. And as I think everyone knows by now, it charges crazy fast and doesn't get hot. It's also the fastest piece of tech I've ever used.

Great review. I think many of us suffer from poor connectivity more often than expected. Your more detailed review is valuable.

Got myself a 1TB Oneplus 12 for RM3700 which is equivalent to around 800 bucks. It's just unbeatable at that price. Pixels over here cost about RM5000 or 1100 bucks for half the storage. It's not even close.

I am absolutely loving my OnePlus 12. Juan's right, the charging speed really changes how you interact with your phone. I no longer feel the need to plug my phone in overnight or every time I'm in the car. I simply plug it in for a few minutes when the battery gets low and get another day's use out of it. But I do like the Pixel 8 Pro's design a bit better.

What I don't understand is how a phone with such a weak cpu became phone of the year and is always being compared to phones with the most powerful cpu chips. How does that happen?

OnePlus has me not interesting in the Pixel as much. I still have a Pixel Fold that I use, occasionally, but I feel like Google is too simple in some ways. It is a great smartphone for those who get lots of spam calls, those who just want to point and shoot and don't mind Google's post processing, don't mind waiting for the cloud video processing and don't mind the few missing features. I really do feel like Google has taken the "iPhone of Android" a bit too far. Lack of video out, the data transfer speeds for the port being slower and charging being frustratingly slow compared to the other Android options we have. I am also concerned with how they have already decided to leave the Pixel 8, non Pro model behind in features and that 7 years of OS and Feature updates isn't really as meaningful as what they marketed it to be. If they'd have said OS and security updates, but left out the "feature updates", I would be more okay with it. I know other companies don't bring features to their older devices, even when they support them with OS updates, but they also don't advertise that as a selling point. I'm concerned with the direction that Google is heading and seeing other OEMs offer more for less and available in the same and more markets, has me struggling to want to get any more Pixels for a while. They have left my Fold in the dust for features and the idea that it's an $1800 device, being treated more like a $200 Galaxy A device, as far as updates and features being added, I am saddened. Hopefully, they'll listen to the users and bring those things over. I didn't mean for my comment to turn into a rant, but that says just how much I am loving my OnePlus 12 and other Android devices. It's great to have so many options. Nothing Phone 2a is headed my way to add another company to my perspective.

Oneplus beats the pixel hands down, 12 is a hardware beast and the software is decent too

P8 Pro has battery so bad I don't even consider getting it. And it charges slow AF.
Camera's great, but it doesn't matter if the phone is unreliable.

Agree with your Tier system/naming. I have been mostly a Premium Tier user. Today ordered OnePlus 12, the 16GB/512GB Black, as an upgrade to my 10 Pro 12GB/256GB. I am getting it for around USD715, think for the price this is one of the best, if not the best, including UFS 4.0 and USB 3.2 Gen 1 support at last.

nice to see....google should use snapdragon processors and also improve the battery life capacity along with yearly update to the camera hardware not only rely on software
