Mechanical and Chemical Barriers to Disease

The body has chemical and mechanical barriers to prevent pathogens from entering the body, or to destroy them as soon as they do.

Mechanical barriers include the skin and nostril hairs.Chemical barriers include hydrochloric acid in the stomach which destroys pathogens, and mucus which traps pathogens. In the trachea, for example, pathogens and dust trapped in the mucus are moved out by the wave-like motion of cilia.

Hi. Thank you for this video. May I ask you, because on the exam board for Edexcel, it says that we need to know about lysozomes and how they provide defence against pathogens. Could you tell me how this works? Many Thanks.
