Over the years, I've know a number students who won the green card lottery. They applied totally on their own; their government did not select them to be in the lottery. All I've come in contact with have been the best of the best, not the worst of the worst. Since Trump is so keen on allowing immigration solely from Europe (I don't share his sentiments), it is amusing/ironic he is against the lottery. All the lottery winners I've come in contact with came from Europe and from excellent school systems. Many already have college degrees from their own countries. Whether they have degrees or not, many speak two to five languages in addition to their native tongue; many have already studied English since childhood in their native land, or, if they haven't, they learn to read and write English well enough in two to three years to excel in college classes, and many go to college. Most speak, read, and write English much more coherently than Trump does. It is great having a president who just makes things up rather than informing himself.

From what i see..The lottery is merit based..you must have a highschool diploma or two years of work experience in a zone 4 job to enter the lottery and you must be a citizen of a country with low immigration to the US that means more diverse immigrant community

Many of the people from Latin America who arrive through this system happen to be highly educated individuals. My aunt has a college degree back in Peru, and she came here through this program.. and I know a couple of people from Venezuela who in their countries have both a college degree, and some sort of wealth... and came to this country through the same exact program. So Trump is truly mistaken about what he says. If Trump wants to apply a merit-based system, he should start with DACA.... or aren´t those 900, 000 people between college students, professionals, and people who serve in the military qualified enough for him? They are way more qualified than his wife.. who by the way, was not even close to being a sought-after model.

Only Tapper can deliver such no-nonsense to shutdown those trump apologists saying stupid stuff like "you're misrepresenting the president, he said (made up excuses)" or "I think what he actually means (something else entirely)".

I am a product of the visa lottery and the screening process is no joke. It includes medical, back ground checks, occupation, interviews, etc. You are also required to pay fees and have a sponsor in the U.S. to vouch for you and provide you with a place to stay. Most of the people that pass the screening are either professionals or college students with no criminal history or medical issues. A lot of us ended up joining the military and even died fighting the war on behalf of this nation. I did 4 years in the Navy Seabees with two deployments. Most of us have higher education. I have a BA and MA degrees, and currently pursuing my MBA using my GI Bill. I have put in 14 years of my life serving this country both on a military capacity and as a DoD civilian. I now work for NASA in support of our space programs. America is the greatest country on earth and will continue to attract the best and the brightest through the lottery system. I have never been on food stamp or unemployed in my life and I am grateful to my fellow Americans, liberal or conservative, that have been so kind to my and served with me. It is an honor to give back to this great nation we all call home and to humanity

This is awesome Jake.
Hopefully this sort of stuff gets out to more than just your cnn viewers.
I think part of the issue is people are so involved with social media, and essentially put themselves into silos with their "likes" etc, then using the analytics and ad features on those social networks, people's individual feeds can be altered by those willing to pay for ads - basically you've got segments of people seeing totally different things in their "news feeds" ... They're all in segmented bubbles!

If we could vote here I'd vote for an entire channel dedicated to fact checking like this.
