I appreciate that there has been NO music added to the video, so we can hear the natural sounds of the ship & the sea.

What is staggering is at one point cresting nearly half the ship is out of water, the stresses on the hull must be beyond enormous! Full credit to the designers, welders, builders etc!

The ship appears to be about 10000 dwt or slightly less. I worked at sea 1978-1984 as a marine engineer until I had enough seatime to get my Chief Engineer’s unlimited license. Encountered seas like this only twice. Both times south of Greenland for nearly 3days without a break. The ship was automated for an unmanned engine room. But it is necessary to run a watch in storms like this one when miscellaneous alarms are repeatedly triggered. Most engine room alarms need only be acknowledged but ever so often some action is necessary. Mowing up and down ladders becomes dangerous and taxing. Seasickness never bothered me but this kind of weather lasting days wears any sailor. Getting sleep between watches is hard when you worry about not being heaved out of your bunk! This kind of weather was to be expected Nov-February in the North Atlantic. I took a shoreside job with a marine engine manufacturer after obtaining the unlimited license. And moved later to work shoreside jobs with an oil company, cruise line and with a general cargo shipowner firm. Now retired and happy I don’t need to work on the North Atlantic.

Mit diesem ein paar Sekunden dauernden Clip, der nur einen minimalen Ausschnitt zeigen kann, kann man als "normaler" Mensch nur erahnen, was da draußen wirklich los ist. Respekt allen Seefahrern gegenüber!

Storms like these are unimaginable for people who have never seen them or sailed in them.
Nobody would believe you when you tell them waves are over a hundred feet high, and the depression between waves are just truly awesome,
Its hard to believe a ship can sail through seas such as these . They are so much bigger in real life .
Ive sailed in the eye of a cyclone many times, once for days in the South Pacific, just to avoid the wind and waveheight, but the biggest storm was in Bass Straight and The Great Australian Bight, it was absolutely enormous,
looking at the waves, and into the depressions was mind boggling, like your looking into the gates of hell, quite scary for the inexperienced sailor, most of the crew are very seasick, and basically unable to work, meals can't be served so sandwhiches make do .
However,
now retired,
I miss those days, and the years spent out at sea, i often find myself at a harbour or port, or walking the beach just to get the smell of the ocean in my head .
The sea is very addictive, and long time sailors develop a deep respect, and a longing for the sea.

Imagine being a Viking over 1000 years ago, and encountering this in your longboat...

Nobody that hasn’t been offshore before in really bad weather will truly appreciate the awesomeness that THIS storm, the waves, and wind are truly putting forces on the ship and everything else! It’s just a massive amount of force against all that steel. And 75-80% of the time, Mother Nature is going to win out and destroy whatever is in her way!!

Absolutely beautiful. There's nothing on earth like being out on the open Sea. Be it calm or be it in a storm

It brings back fond memories of my seafaring days way back in the 60s and 70s.

When the USS Constellation came to the yards on the east coast from the west we were one of the airwing groups VF-33 to ride along. We went around the Horn and went through swells like this. I snuck out on the catwalk to take a look. Pretty terrifying actually. And I was on an aircraft carrier. Couldn’t imagine how old wooden vessels sailed these seas like that.

I was aboard the USS Joseph Hewes DE1078 in the Red Sea back in 75' in a storm not this intense but bad enough the waves were breaking the bow and the phosphorous in the water was so intense, when disturbed it lit up green like a fireflies. Everything you see white in this water would be lit up lime green from dusk till dawn. Even the water running back across the deck.
