Hello Pilot Steve. Did you have any luck with the GoPro 9 settings allowing you to best capture in and outside of the cockpit footage? I do not use the 9, but rather the 10. My main interest is educational as I train and mentor folks in the Phenom series of light jets.

Video debriefing and reflective learning have been fundamental to my style of pilot training for a number of years dating back to 2003 when we used Diamond Aircraft modified via STC and during production with bullet cams in the tail and cockpit paired with a drilled out Pelican case containing a video tape recorder... We are in a much better place than those days with GoPros.

My latest challenge has been finding the camera position which will allow all three screens in the Phenom to be captured in great detail without the camera focusing on the less interesting elements. For my use, consistency/reliability while capturing pilot interaction with the various versions of the Garmin is critical. We are less worried about capturing both inside and outside at the same time. With that said, I have gained a significant amount of data re combinations of frame rate, anti-flicker settings, resolution, etc during test shootings which may be of interest to you as I definitely struggled with rolling screens with and without the outside world in the field of view.

I'm more than happy to share, if interested, some of results if that helps you or other fellow pilots.

Please let me know and we can workout a way to share without compromising any confidentiality issues with my customers. Fortunately, most of them have been receptive to video being a powerful tool in their development; consequently, allowing me to use their footage under certain conditions in an effort to help others.

Regards,

Bill
