Why You Hit The Ball Too Low

It's more rare but I do see some people hit the ball too low. I used to do this years ago. If you hit the ball on a lower trajectory you have to be delofting your club as you hit the ball.

There are 3 things that cause you to deloft your club. To hit the ball higher you need to watch this video. Then video your swing so you can determine which of these things you are doing. Once you know that then you can work on the correct fix and get the proper flight on your shots.

Hitting the ball too low is a serious problem because it can lead to inconsistent shots as well as not being able to keep the ball on the green when you hit your approach shots.

Once you cure these shots it will allow you to hit the ball with the proper flight which allow you to greatly improve you game.

The very very best video I have ever watched. I spent 30 years de-lofting and no pro actually sorted this out. You did it Paul, many thanks

This is the most helpful video to fix my problem, I have been hitting the ball low most of the time and wondered why I could not fix it ! Thanks Paul.

Thanks. Went to range today to implement head over back foot and keep it there. Best Tip ever!

Hi Paul. I used to hit consistently low shots, especially with my driver. You pointed out the sway in my swing. My head and body got way ahead and as you point out in this video was obviously the reason for my low shots. Worked it all out in NZ this winter and much better now. Thanks!

Outstanding video. I’ll definitely check out these three reasons as I sometimes tend to hit the ball on a low trajectory.

Paul, I appreciate your sharing vast knowledge that is easily understood. Your ‘1 bucket range challenge’ is the Best. Your Valuable Time is very much Appreciated. Thank You. Jim / St. Louis

Glad you mentioned the ‘close as you take away’. It’s driving me nuts trying to sort this chronic reoccurring problem. Thanks again Paul. Your wisdom and experience is appreciated.

Great video, Paul! Thanks! I must keep my head over my rear leg on the downswing. I usually get my "big head" in front of the ball in my downswing. No wonder I'm topping most of my shots!

That was great..will have to look into your advice more...

The 3 things you described were really one thing....a delofted clubhead at contact. What about hitting the ball above the equator, maybe because of a chicken wing or early release? Or maybe a reverse pivot that causes the clubhead to rise as you're coming into impact?

I’m hitting low and left. I’m sure I’m doing everything you said to check cause my friends told me to always weight on front foot, hands in front. I always do super strong grip with driver to help slice and I think it carries over to irons even though I don’t mean to

Yep…this is me. Strong grip and close the face. Left, left, left…all day. 7 iron launching like a 4 iron.

I'm definitely in the camp of having all my weight over my front leg but if I do let it shift I hit behind the ball. I don't know how to get the low point of my swing out in front of the ball and not stay loaded on my front leg through my backswing

Yea I am doing it. Thanks for letting me know what to look for! Would opening the face at the address be something to try??

Hi Paul; I was wondering if clubhead speed is a factor in how high you hit the ball if you're swinging properly. If I have a slow speed for whatever reason, will I hit the ball lower? Also I know you teach a different swing than others but why do they insist that your hands should be ahead of the ball to deloft the club to compress the ball more which is obviously what you say we shouldn't do? I'm not saying your method is wrong & actually yours makes more sense than hands ahead, so I'm going to try it because after watching your video, it seems my hands are definitely too far ahead delofting the club too much because my body is already moving ahead toward the target & delofting it even more & the ball won't hold the green. Does that make sense or am I not understanding it properly? Thanks.

Hi Paul on my normal iron shot no divot and the ball goes high and straight. So in an effort to take a divot I move infront of the ball at contact. The result is nice divot but ball flight is extremely low. My hands are ahead of ball at address and with moving ahead of ball with upper body the club is super delofted.. Please
