Josh - My husband and I (Kim and Gregg) met you in Malta in May 2022 at a mall coffee shop (Cafe 9) in Selima. You overheard us talking about the Portuguese Custard Tarts (Pasteis de Nata) since the little tiny coffee shop carries it. We were in Lisbon and Porto in 2018 and loved it. We were celebrating our 20th Anniversary in Selima. You asked us what is preventing you from moving to Portugal? Well, we took a scouting trip in Lisbon and outer skirt in September 2022, and guessed what.. we bought our new home in Ericeira! We can not wait to move in end of 2023! It’s under construction. We have been following you and this grocery cost video is awesome. Thank you for doing a variety of subjects about Portugal, especially current cost of living. Your little bundle of joy is so adorable ❤

Since it seems the bank fees seem to be a bit of a concern among your viewers, I’m happy to share some info.

The banks that have no administration fees tend to have a more online presence rather than physical places.

The following banks currently do not charge for “crazy” unjustified fees:

1 - ActivoBank
2 - Banco BIG
3 - Banco Best
4 - Banco BNI Europa
5 - N26
6 - Revolut
7 - Bankinter (A monthly deposit of at least 800€ required to avoid fees)
8 - Moey from Crédito agrícola. ( As suggested by another viewer)

Hope this helps.

As someone that literally just started to think about moving out of the states, this is very helpful. You got yourself a new subscriber. :)

The bank maintenance fee is outrageous! I'm not thrilled to say this, but I couldn0't care less about Portuguese banks at this point. I have a standard account with Bankinter (a Spanish Bank, which took over the operations of Barclays Bank in Portugal). I pay no maintenance fees. I don't pay MB Way fees, not even for transfers between Portuguese banks.

Awesome report. Exchange rate as of the release date is 1 Euro = USD $1.10. Had to pause and go back 15 seconds many times. You guys have tightened up production lots. Thanks again.

Thank you for tracking & sharing this info. I was just asked this "how much" should we anticipate question and I assumed a little more $ (maybe 20% more). This is great info. Great to see how much you were able to go out and do things!

Re bank maintenance fees. I cant remember where I saw this, but if you have a simple account ie money in, money out, not linked to other accounts and if it is your only account in Portugal, you can ask your bank to reduce the fee to Euro 1 per month. I did this with Millenium. Obviously no bank is going to advertise this but worth going into your bank and asking.

Thank you for your time and posting. :) You didn't mention the Gym in the 2023 video I just watched. Glad to know there are international restaurants.

Great video and very insightful about the prices. Not as inexpensive as I'd hoped but then again Porto is a major city and you are living exactly as you want. I'll probably be searching out the daily deals, little mom and pop places and lunch specials etc and will be in a smaller town. Will find out once we arrive in Summer. Thank you for all the work that you do to help everyone!

This is so, so informative for folks who are looking to live. I just returned home from vacation (Lisbon > Porto > Braga) and returned to the States with a wallet full of dollars. Some things are cheap (beer! Vinho verde!! Gifts!) but vacation isn’t everyday living. Thank you for all your efforts 💕💕💕

Super informative video! I'm surprised by the high cost (to me) of utilities and of dining out. Of course, dining out is a choice...It is awesome that the metro is so inexpensive. I plan to use it a lot and I appreciate what you shared about always comparing Bolt and Uber coming and going. The links you offer above will keep me occupied and entertained for quite a while too. I'm excited and can't wait to dig into them. Thanks again.

Thanks for the breakdown. I didn't see info about utilities -- gas, electric, water, etc. Did I miss that? Also, any renters insurance?

Basically the cost is about the same as small town USA. Thanks for doing this. Officially ruling out Portugal.

Calvary chapel! So cool. Coming to Portugal and not finding a church is one of my concerns. Could you speak more to that?

Note how you don’t have an issue finding fresh, wholesome, healthy foods everywhere you go.
