A deep-sea exploration turns into a real-life nightmare for the families of the five men on board the Ocean Gate Titan Submersive. The sub deployed into the Atlantic Ocean Sunday, with the goal of traveling 13,000 feet deep to search the Titanic wreckage, but they lost contact with their support ship.
Rescuers have been working around the clock to find them, reporting that noise w

RIP to the crew. A preventable tragedy. I feel bad for the 19 year old. It's probable the elderly men did not make use of the diving tanks but left them for the 19 year old so he'd have more time.

That CEO is such a hype guy. In that interview he implies that the internal systems can fail and you'll still be okay. He omits that it would have no communication, location or emergency exit mechanisms, if it sinks nothing can retrieve it in time, but even that doesn't matter because it's not designed to survive the pressure at the bottom. From beginning to end it's all a hype job. He was literally just hoping to get lucky and survive.

Hopefully this is the last uncertified vessel going down there.

If they lost contact with the sub after two hours then it's possible an instant implosion may have happened. 5K PSI isn't something you would want to mess with.

The vessel has not even been tested at any depths deeper than the Titanic.
That is totally insane.
It should have been tested at deeper depths to be totally sure that they were not operating just on the limit for the vessel every time it went down to the Titanic.
They should have tested it down to at least 5000 meters before they started to use it for tourists down to Titanic.
They should all just stay away from Titanic in my opinion, but that is another discussion.

I can’t believe he took his young son with him on such a dangerous journey. It must be a horrifying experience and extremely frightening. I feel sorry for his son that thought he was safe because he was with his father. So sad.

Shoulda paid 500k to have a steel cable 13000 ft long to connect to the sub to pull it up in case of emergency

I am always optimistic, but I hate to admit here, they have still not located the sub yet, even after they locate its signal, exact location is to be determined yet, it take hours to bring them up, its not like just immediately pull them out, the water has extreme pressure they have to very slowly bring it up, any quickness with crush the sub like a can, and that's only after when the sub exact location is detected and a proper recovery system is in place, the chances are slim to none, all we can do now is pray and hope for a miracle

I really wish people would just leave that grave site alone.

Sink rate + time descending put them at about 9, 000 ft. when they lost communication. The bottom is at 12, 500 ft. They knew they couldn't find the Titanic without being guided by the mother ship, so if they could, they'd have dropped ballast soon after they lost communication. The fact that they didn't leaves two possibilities:
1. They lost power, no longer had the ability to trigger the ballast release, and the automatic system that was supposed to operate under this circumstance failed, or
2. The vessel shell failed and either flooded or imploded.

I can only imagine if they see ghosts of the titanic looking at them directly on that glass bubble as they slowly dies of hunger thirst or lack of oxygen. They pretty much ride to thier death inside a coffin to see deaths 13000ft below the dark abyss. How creepy of a way to die.😨🥶

This is a horrific way to go. I feel terrible for all these men, but the 19 year old in particular breaks my heart. I can’t imagine how their families feel and they have my deepest condolences. I would also like to mention Paul-Henri Nargeolet. I have studied the Titanic for twenty years, and his is a name I have become familiar with. Rest in Peace to Suleman, Shahzada, Hamish, Paul-Henri, and Stockton.

That being said, I hope this incident shows the world that “touring” the Titanic is not only extremely dangerous for the living, but also disrespectful to the dead. The ship is already on the brink of disintegration due to rusticles forming and feeding on the iron. Every time someone visits the wreckage, they disturb these rusticles, causing them to disintegrate and take pieces of the ship with it. The Titanic will be nothing but a rust stain in approximately 100 years. Less than that if we keep visiting her. It’s important to remember that this is a gravesite. It’s also important to remember that to properly honor the tragedy, memorialize it, and respect it, we MUST leave Titanic alone. It’s not the same as visiting a museum or graveyard on land. In this particular case, human involvement causes damage as opposed to provides preservation and protection. There is a line between education and exploitation of a tragedy. Dark tourism such as this, crosses that line.

Thanks to previous dives, we already have in-depth scans of the wreckage. We have made many scientific discoveries, including the discovery of rusticles. Before Robert Ballard’s dives, we didn’t even know if the ship had split in two or not. These are all very positive things. However, thanks to these dives we also now know that she is degrading, and every visit we make to her, we cause this process to increase in speed rapidly. The time for all dives to Titanic, scientific or otherwise, now do not serve much of a purpose. They now do more harm than good.

The Titan has very sadly proven that no regulations are in place for expeditions such as this. These civilians are most likely unaware of the damage these dives cause to the wreckage. These civilians are also not completely aware of how truly dangerous a situation they are in (due to the fragility of the wreckage easily allowing the possibility of the submersibles being stuck, collapsed upon, punctured, etc). Dives such as this are very irresponsible. Regardless of any waivers being signed, they cannot know with 100% certainty what they are getting themselves into. So many more will suffer if dives like this become a regular “tourist attraction.” Please let the Titanic rest in peace. Please help prevent further misinformation and the endangerment of civilians who do not know any better.

Subs that can go that deep should be equiped with much more than 4 days of oxygen. If something does go wrong on the sea floor, it can take a very long time the get rescued.

It’s possible we don’t find the sub for another 10+ years

One of the billionaires familys should have offered a billion cash to anyone to rescue them.

These types of excursions should be banned, and the second the CEO said the sub was controlled by a video game controller? That is a hell no for me...

I cannot bring myself to say what I first thought, out of respect for those onboard and their families. I believe they are still alive and will be found. Love and prayers to all involved 🙏
