Joe Howley, founder of Patient Airlift Services(PALS), realized that for the type of flying he wanted, his Pilatus no longer fit the bill. However, he needed a multiengine rating and a secondin-command type rating to legally fly the jet he wanted.

I like the idea of purchasing a Phenom 300 first, and figuring out the licenses to fly it only afterwards :)

Joe demonstrated a level of self awareness that more of us could benefit from by not attempting to fly beyond our abilities. Too many who did so are now statistics. I've been out of aviation for close to 20 years and am about to get back in. My ego wants to fly single pilot as soon as possible AND what Joe had to say about the benefits of a second pilot when things get messy is not lost on me.

I cannot relate going to a jet but, I remember my first flight in a Golden Eagle. I was a 172 pilot. I was asked to fly right seat on a 1 way charter, Radios and navigation was my job except in case of emergency then checklist items were added. All went well. I hand flew the empty return leg VFR. All was good until about 30 miles out of Falcon and Atc asked if I wanted to start decent. Thats when pic laughed and told me i was getting really late on decent and approach. I was so far behind the airplane. All the way to flare. I finally gave up on the checklist, dumped pressurization, only to learn the PIC already had and went with gumps on shot final. With the PICs help we got on the ground safely. That flight got my attention. So much to learn. This was in the 90s and my heartbeat still goes up when I think about it. But, i got a few hours of dual in a Golden Eagle in my logbook. Pretty cool for a 100 hour private pilot and a real learning experience.

I know why. You can get a 300 but you cant get a PC24 because of the long waiting list for that aircraft. I personally would wait and get the 24 for resale and the number of airports that plane can get to. Guys are landing that plane on dry lake beds and doing stuff you will NEVER do in that 300. Also the reason the resale is so good is because that jet can be reconfigured for ambulance, ranches use them.

Would you really go 2000NM non stop on E55P? How much fuel (if some) do you expect to have on landing? What about Regulations?

Single pilot in the 300 is cake, way easier than a C421

I mean this decision from a proppeller to a jet has nothing to do with the type, but with the mission profile! There he would have been but certainly with the PC24 much better served.

I hope you don't kill anyone with a single pilot type rating.
