Guys i managed to do it by myself by puting a tierip on each of the rings. Then i put a ratchet strap around it, so i could use the ratchet to stretch open the spring, then pushed it in place and released the ratchet! Worked like a charm

I'm glad I ran across this video, I avoided buying the tool and used two zip ties to get mine put back on. I had my wife hold the top at 10 and 2 o'clock. Then, I pulled the spring apart using the zip ties and we got it back on. Easy peasy, but you do need someone's help.

I did this with a long pair of pliers with zipties on ends to prevent the spring holes entering too far and the help of a woman. She pressed the spring at 10 and 2, as someone else mentioned, and I held the pliers with the left hand while using a screwdriver with my right to insert the spring in the groove.

This somehow popped off when I took laundry out and I used scissors to replace it instead of the separator tool, hard to explain but I used my knee to hold one side of the scissor on the metal of the washer and my left hand to slowly bend the spring out to guide the ring around with my right hand, took like 10 mins

Thanks for showing the step by step instructions. I was able to do the repair in an hour by myself and save some $. Used a Needle nose vise grip to pull the cable and stretch it around the boot. The soap idea worked well.

After a lot of exertion and frustration I got the ring on by myself, without the tool. What finally worked for me was a hybrid of some ideas in the comments here. For the stretch I used an IRWIN clamp set to push out. To attach that to the spring I used zip ties (around the clamp in a way that the spring can be as close to the washer as possible). Then you can stretch it pretty far quite easily, push almost everything in the groove, and release the clamp. Be careful though, keeping fingers clear if something slips and snaps back.

I used some clamps to hold the ring in place and levered a flat blade screw driver to stretch it. So far so good.

This job is impossible without that dumb spring expansion tool. Despite what the "repair clinic" says it is not possible to do this job with a screw driver unless you have multiple hands holding the seal in place because every time you try and fit the ring in the groove at the bottom the ring pulls the seal out if the groove. Buying this expensive tool is the only way to put this ring in without multiple hands struggling to hold the seal down. If not make a video showing someone putting this ring in without the "spring expansion tool" on an lg washer.

This spring is not that bad to put on without special tools. Usually I can put these on with out tools but a flat screwdriver can help.. the inner spring is where the problems are!

U can substitute the spring expansion tool with large scissors like I did.

I get lucky. Cleaned up the spring. Lightly oiled. Installed / maneuvered boot into position 360 degrees. Walked the wire on with flat blade screwdriver and used clothes pins for the 1st 2/3 then walked in on totally . G R E A T DAY….😀😀

I brought the tool as I couldn’t get the wire back on and I still can’t get it into place it moves everytime I do it so I need a new wire or just someone to come help keep it in place?
