We all had to do shop or home economics when I went to school. Practicality matters.

i feel like a co-op in the trades would be much better i never liked mechanical in shop but second i got into a actual garage, loved it now i'm a red seal mechanic make great money it's quite worth it.
on top of that i remember teaching kids in co-op while i was at the dealer was pretty nice.

We should have autoshop or driving classes as well. I actually love this because girls are discouraged by the sheer amt of guys in tech classes but if its required it would be more comfortable.

Solid move but trades work shouldn’t be dismissed as less than academics. It’s equally a challenging and rewarding career path for those talented. It not a fall back career choice.

Education in Ontario is SEVERELY under funded, so what's the point of a new course if there's NO ONE to teach these courses + NO STUDENTS to take them

They told us that trades are for losers so why bring it back now?? Hmm

As a 12th grader im glad ive never experienced this trade nonsense and destreaming. There is a doctor shortage in this country. Train kids to become doctors and professionals. Also, as someone from a rural school this would never work for us. We only have one auto and one woodshop teacher and enough kids are already taking it. Why dont you fund my rural school first?

This is a great idea!! But what about all the schools that took all of the shop equipment out of their schools??

I... stand behind this decision. There should also be financial literacy seminars. And more robust careers and civics courses.

Why did they take home ec and shop out of the ordinary lineup in the first place.

How about cutting the teachers wages back to 50k a year like it should be and you could hire 50% more teachers then.

Why is it a NEW requirement? I had it when I was in highschool. Who canceled the requirement?

About time! The stigmas teachers have towards the trades are ridiculous! Now all they need are competent people to teach the students.

This is great start, even if they don’t get into the skill trade, least they have basic knowledge, but what the government needs to do is start encouraging sick days and a better environment to work in, the washrooms I’ve seen was extremely nasty !!

That's great, many options for classes and will give every new high school student a chance to maybe discover something they may be interested in pursuing.

Skilled trades - I’ll pass, computer technology please. I doubt this would help skilled trades and wonder why modular homes aren’t being built.
