I greatly enjoyed watching this video with the 2 Kims. I managed to visit the Carrefour Européen du Patchwork in Sainte-Marie-aux-Mines in Alsace in Sept 2019, I can highly recommend it, lots to do & see. So many different styles of quilts, from so many countries, lots to inspire you. When we can travel again post pandemic, I’d recommend you put it on your bucket list. Don’t worry if you don’t speak French, there were so many nationalities there & many speak English, although learning a few French phrases is always appreciated.

Thank you very much for this nice video about the french technique Boutis.
Living in the Netherlands, in the Amsterdam region, 6 kilometers North-west of Amsterdam, there is the Zaan region, called after a little, but very important river. This region is very special because since the 14th century they exploited the energy from windmils for there very early industrialisation. At a certain moment there were over a thousand windmills here.
In this region boutis was also practised from around the year 1600 until about 1800 and it is known under the Dutch name 'Zaans stikwerk'. It was used for making baby hats, jackets and women under skirts and jackets (for keeping warm in the winter). It was also done in white. Probably not orriginally from the Zaan region but imported by Danish and English immigrants.

I grew up in Canada. I use both metric and inches. It is easier to measure in metric!
