Anyone who isn't familiar with Vera, please look her up. Not only was she a great gymnast, but a brave woman. At the 1968 Olympics, she protested the Soviet invasion of her country, Czechoslovakia. She knew there would be repercussions for that but did it anyhow. On a lighter note, she also performed with a beehive hairdo that stayed in place through her routines. 😀

Vera Caslavska from the former Checoslovakia! She participated at the Olympic Games in Mexico in 1968. She made such a beautiful impression because of her gymnastics skills, and was known as the Queen of the Olympic Games. Vera married at the Cathedral in Mexico City. This video brings me beautiful ❤memories of my childhood!!! ❤❤❤

Those hard, thin mats were easier to stand on after landing, but they were really painful, too. The impact went through your whole body, it was almost like landing on the hard gym floor.

The first one isn't as technical but you can see her perfect technique from liftoff to landing, very smooth lol. cool video!

Yes there’s a difference but you have to remember the actual equipment, vault was so small and the board had no springs, bars were closer loads of things but you can appreciate how insane the difference is

Vera. Caslavska is one of the greatest Olympians ever - IMHO. Her protest on the medal platform cost her a career back home.
She was a dignified patriot as well as a powerful gymnast.
