Ukraine needs full NATO membership for security guarantee, 'there's no point being invited' to join

NATO defence ministers will be discussing the "victory plan" outlined by Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky during two-day talks starting Thursday in Brussels, the alliance's chief Mark Rutte said. Rutte told reporters on the eve of the talks that "clearly" allies were discussing the plan which calls for ramped-up Western backing including an invitation to join NATO, and that it would "be on the table this week". As Moscow sends a stark warning that Zelensky's 'Victory Plan' pushes NATO toward 'direct conflict' with Russia, FRANCE 24's Nadia Massih is joined by Dr Patrick Bury, Senior Lecturer in Security in the Politics, Languages & International Studies (PoLIS) department, at the University of Bath, specialising in warfare and counter-terrorism.

Let me translate, i can not defend myself after receiving bilions of dollars, I want NATO to save me instead of fighting myself.

The Kursk offensive is fragmenting with multiple encirclements of individual battalions. Russia is sucking up 50 square miles of Ukrainian territory on the eastern front weekly and sometimes daily. Ukraine is facing a conscription crisis while Russia is easily increasing conscription by 150, 000. Ukraine produces none of its own Artillery shells and the recent Czech effort will pull in 250, 000 at best while Russia produces 3 million a year and buys another 2 million from North Korea. The Kurst offensive has only siphoned veteran troops away from the eastern front and Russia has only doubled down in the Donbas. We convinced Ukraine to throw two generations in the hopper and that’s all well done, but now only for loss and every month will see Ukraine’s land and military age population (18 to 60) shrink. The rainy season was supposed to win Ukraine a reprieve, but unusually dry weather has only further enabled Russian advances and now we see an entirely new Russian offensive pick up just as they’ve rotated troops out from this last highly successful one. The US has its hands tied in the middle east and now China and North Korea are causing tremors in the East. Harris’ numbers have stalled to the point where this is being declared as the tightest race in generations. And even if Harris wins she will likely not have a cooperative House and Senate to pass whatever military aid Ukraine may need. Worst of all Putin sees no need to negotiate at this point, so a continued grinding war of attrition where Russia possesses the advantage in men, missiles, artillery and air power is all that’s in the offing, even if Ukraine is given longer claws. Disaster has befallen Ukraine and it is due to one senile man’s insistence on staying the course on intractable but unrealizable policy offensives and a clutch of petty ideologues like Blinken and Sullivan who remain invested in these failing projects on which their careers have been based. I cry for Ukraine, but this madness must end. Someone has to seek peace with Putin, even if it is on terrible terms. Ukraine will otherwise be reduced to the penury of widows in the cold of this ensuing winter.
