Police basically says: We cannot do anything, and you shouldn't do anything.

I recovered my own truck also. In Oakland. I posted handed out descriptions where the truck received a parking ticket. I got a call from a mail carrier. I raced home, got a rifle and revolver and secured the vehicle. And called police to verify I had recovered it.

Stuff is getting out of hand.
Vote out all the soft on crime Activists who don't know squat and don't care what happens to regular people.'
These Activists think letting out criminal or giving them light sentences is good for society.

I had my truck stolen last April. I had to find it myself - the same day it was taken. I found it in the filthy, lawless, city of Oakland ( near a filthy "homeless" camp - strewn with other stolen vehicles )
I thank GOD that there was minimal damage / theft done to it.The Oakland police department was an enormous disappointment to have to deal with.

As for the truck theft in this news clip - the police aren't looking for the theif.... they are nearly powerless to do anything anymore .

I live in Gilroy CA . It's interesting to note that he tracked down his truck in Morgan Hill. My friend has had people here in Gilroy try to break in and try to steal his truck on several occasions. The way it looks, possible chop shop in Morgan Hill.

If he hadn't gone after his truck himself and just filed a report, the report would have been swallowed by the giantic maw of beaucratic paper shuffling and if he were lucky the police would have followed his truck around CA thru the key fob.

I had a hit and run driver take the mirror off my truck, called the police, they came took the report and left behind the mirror of the truck that sideswiped my truck. I took the mirror left behind, took it apart got part numbers off it, and called the Ford dealership. The parts department called me an hour later and told me the part was for a 1993 Red Ford F-150 lightning, only one registered locally. I called the police back and told them the info I had and they accused me of trying to scam them, I told them I want the a-hole to replace and pay for the damage to my truck. The parts department called me the next day to tell me they just had a guy come in and buy a replacement mirror for his 1993 Red Lightning. Called Police back and gave them the info, they told me to stop and just deal with my insurance. They wouldn't do anything about it. You can even do the work for the police and they wont follow up on anything. Very disappointing experience.

Thieves are not held accountable for their actions. At this point in time maybe they seriously need some sensitivity training that will immobilize them from ever committing such crimes.

Police won't do a thing for law abiding citizens.

"I'm not going to put up with this anymore.." should be the mantra of everyone in this state!

Install a simple hidden “kill switch”. They can’t drive away in your car if it doesn’t run!
Interrupt either the start circuit or the fuel circuit. Simple, cheap and effective.

I install car alarms for a living. What I’ve come to realize over the years is that people think that their factory key fob is an alarm system. It’s not. It’s just to lock and unlock your doors even if there’s a panic button on it. You can check it yourself. Roll your window down, step outside, lock your door with the remote, wait 2 minutes, reach in and open the door. If it doesn’t set off the horn, it’s not an alarm. Also, even if it does say security and it goes off by that method, if you turn the key cylinder on the door with a screwdriver, it will deactive the security system. Just have a competent stereo shop install an aftermarket alarm. Make sure they tuck it up high so that it’s not just visible when you look up under the dash. And make sure that they install a starter disable. The alarm should go off by multiple points of protection by impact, door triggers, or ignition turned on. Better to spend $200 than deal with getting your vehicle stolen so easily.

I am the same kind of person he is, I’m sick of calling the police and expecting them to help, I’ll do it on my own, I have air tags in my truck, boat, and work trailer.

If the low quality trucks they are building today are worth 100k then that one he recovered is worth a million

I got my tools stolen when I first started as a mobile diesel mechanic out of the service truck. That had to be one of the worst days of my life. Specially because I didn’t have anything to work with the next day. I hope they needed the tools more than me.

people have to do this since our lousy governor is so lax on crime! Remember this when it comes time to VOTE HIM OUT!!!

The police wouldn't have retrieved it. You have to be your own police and detective here in California.

Best 2 gadgets to have in your vehicle are dashcams and tracking devices like those Apple air tags.

My Passat was stolen from beach parking north of Santa Cruz - Used my cellphone tracker app and found it a couple hours later... abandoned for the time. Sunglasses still there, but they got two hand made carbon fiber skateboards...
