I bought my first car, a 1972 VW Beetle in 1986. Needless to say it needed some welding. Bought a flux core Miller and taught myself to use it. Been using it ever since.

I use flux core for most of my welding Billy and much like you, never had an issue. Steel thick or thin. Gaps. No gaps.
You have to appreciate and love The keyboard warriors who have never welded a piece of steel in their life helping folks like us through these tough and challenging jobs. The internet is great!😅😊

"I've been welding sheet metal for 42yrs, I don't need no critique", I agree with ya. Been an MX tech for 20yrs and my stepfather, who has NO mechanical abilities will ask me to come fix his snowblower, lawnmower etc. and then tell me "the guy on youtube said to do it this way" which is usually completely wrong. Love the guy but wanna choke him just for a little bit when he tells me how to wrench.

Ive only been welding for 6 years. But I had to help the 3rd shift guy who has been welding for 20 years finish his section on a job because he was fucking it up so much. Doing something wrong for a long time doesnt make it right, there's always room to improve. Becoming complacent can be dangerous.

for me, the fitting is the most impportant part. with a perfect fit you will have no problem welding it.

I welded, it helded. Any flux core weld that holds is a good flux core weld. I’ve had blokes critique my welding and harp on, until I inform them that I used a flux core in my driveway, in which they do a full 180 and start praising that weld. Because if you get flux core looking decent, you are better than a lot of welders

Flux core works, but i prefer MIG. The only reason i say this is because flux core creates a lot of spatter on your piece which then means more grinding and sanding, and searching for each little spatter later. MIG at the appropriate heat setting leaves very little if any spatter at all. Looks good though, great work!

I have been welding using flux core mig wire for over 30 yrs here in the qeer old corrupt UK 🇬🇧 and never used any type of gas shield . I removed the shroud as u don't need it with flux core wire long before any one suggested it on any media site..yours sincerely from the old qeer corrupt UK 🇬🇧.
