There has been a lot of announcements made by proactive Discord mods that have warned users about a Discord scam that can apparently steal your account just by you clicking on an image. However, is this actually a thing? And if not, is there a scam poses the same risk?

In this video I'm going to clarify the misconception about a Discord scam that can hack your account with one click. And instead of ending the video after 10 seconds, I'm going to spend some time explaining Discord's loading image scam.

btw though i'd let you know since some ppl just say "look for the star in the corner" thinking it has to always be a GIF, sometimes they can use a real image where the format is messed up so it never loads

Just to clarify, because he made that kinda more dramatic than it actually is: If you click on the picture, absolutly nothing happens. If you click on "Open original", still nothing happens. But if you type in your credentials, you messed up.

You can also see a small star in the corner of a gif if you hover over it, good way to see if something is actually an image

Transparency on such scams is important. Of course, people hear "if you click on this image, youll get hacked" and know that cant be true, so they become lax, leaving them vulnerable against phishing scams because they think any and all danger might be inflated. Every wave of hacks comes with a wave of lies on how it operates and its only ever counterintuitive

Also the star that comes when you hover over a GIF is a dead giveaway that it's a GIF, not an image.

This phishing is actually smart and creative. I can imagine myself getting tricked by this. Props to the hackers!

4:05 Another thing, what if you don't even have a "jean serpent"?

Another thing to note, attachments never prompt for login, otherwise they break in Discord itself, so thats another way to recognize a fake login.

It should also be mentioned that you'll never be asked to log in to Discord if you try to view an image. The official CDN requires no log in.

Oh, also. Any picture hosted by the actual discord servers will not give the warning. Only websites that are not trusted by discord will give the warning.
