This is the way I've always done tripods, with others ("experts") claiming I was wrong. Thank you.

The problem arises from the academic approach, rather than working with what is at hand. That is to say, running around looking for the 'right' materials, using the 'right' knots, or spending time and energy to reproduce a fancy mesolithic stone cutting edge, when a lower paleolithic one is just as useful. Does one need a certain bark or plant for cordage? I have found that just about anything fibrous can hold together for months, , even green grass. Just a rave from something that I was thinking about this week.

I carry 2 x100mm (4 inch) stainless steel rings in my kit, light weight and makes tripods very quick and easy. The rings have many other uses, if weight is your concern you can always choose aluminum or titanium. Happy festive season.

1st day in the bush and tried this with a friend, at first he had a tiny doubts on what I was doing but I really impressed him when I hung my whole weight like in the thumbnail then the tripod didnt collapse or break. Will be staying in the bushes and subscribed in this channel for sure!

Hey Dan, I use my spare blanket pin, my largest is 3" diameter and it holds three good sized poles for cooking, smoking meats and hanging gear in the event of the ground being soaked. All the best, Paul, FLA, USA
