Just a slight improvement, makes the protruding points look brighter but doesn’t really lighten or define the shadows.

It looks world's better imo. Just needs better positioning and a counterpart to light the other side of your face. Use the desk lamp to light your counterside and use a smart RGB bulb in the softbox to have even further colour and tone control.
