Great video! I'm really looking forward to watching Queer, The Summer With Carmen, Stress Position, and maybe I Don't Understand You. Thanks for putting these all together and the honest reviews without giving too much away!

Thanks for your list, you've given me a couple of recommendations I'll try to find (Good Grief & A Nice Indian Boy - sounded interesting)

I wish there was a list of where we can stream these. Lazy me, now I'll have to look them up. Good video, BTW, thanks.

Farewell My Concubine made such an impact I still cry 30 years later when I watch it

Hellbent from 2004 is the first horror movie I saw with an all queer cast and I still love it.

The French film Lie With Me, is a poignant portrayal of love and loss between two schoolboys. I've watched it three times, and it left me with a tear in my eye each time. Highly recommended! Also, I read the book in one sitting.

"Plan B" by Argentinian writer/director Marco Berger is probably the foreign language film that has made the biggest impression on me.

I read Queer when it was published in 1985 [when I was 18] and just reread it in anticipation of viewing the film which I have not yet seen yet.

From the very start it is surreal or disjointed, the description of a park in a downtown street seems at first to be placed in NYC but then you discover that it is in Mexico City--a precursor to the Burroughsian concept of the "interzone", highly diverse urban centers that resist assimilation that are somewhat and rather ironically interchangeable and relatable [think the gay neighborhoods of the 80's in cites across the US]. It just gets more surreal as the main character seeks an "audience of one" to connect with on a level deeper than just sex and a powerful hallucinogenic plant--both are sought to deal with the pain of a tragic loss [that is only briefly hinted at in the novel when he hugs his crying son in a dream sequence outside the main bar he frequents below where the tragedy took place].

Hopefully, people will read Queer afterwards if not before watching the film; it is after Junky the most approachable fiction among his works and a hint of his experimental fiction that he focused on for the rest of his career and has influenced so many since in literature, music, and film. Though "most approachable" may still be difficult for some, the story is so queer [in the multiple meanings of that word] that it tears apart the straight storytelling approach and to quote Ginsberg, it is "Burroughs' heart laid bare"--it is the story of one man who unapologetically lives his life as he wishes and loves as he wills...one of the definitions of the word "queer".

Hello! Thanks for great suggestions. I wish there were more lesbian movies. So many gay men movies.

i dunno about you but im tired of sad, painful tortured soul type of gay movies. it just reinforces small minded person's view that being gay means an unhappy life of suffering. i want more happy comedies.

The foreign language film that moved me the most is a toss up from "Soundless Wind Chimes" and "Happy Together".

What's the movie you use as an icon (cowboy with hat)?

Why the hell YOUNG HEARTS not in the list?? I love this movie, the acting of the kids is marvelous and Oscar worthy. But thanks for the other movies in the list...

Uncle Martin (Ray Walston) in ‘My Favorite Martian’ was - for 14 year old me - obviously gay.

it doesn't get any better than Showtime's Queer As Folks. No TV show has ever come close since.
