This Zombie Fungus Mind Controls Insects

Показать описание
Animal zombies might not behave like the zombies you’ve seen on “The Walking Dead.” Instead, these zombies lose control over their bodies and behavior when infected by parasitic fungi called Cordyceps. Cordyceps has over 400 varieties and infects as many as 10 different insect groups. Some specialize in one kind of insect, like carpenter ants. Others don’t discriminate, infecting a variety of insects. Over four to five days, the Cordyceps fungus spores grow by feeding on their host's organs. Insect behavior shows no signs of pain. The infected insects instead get increasingly hyperactive, hypersexual or zombie-like. How about having your brain overrun by a deadly parasite while being eaten alive? If you were an insect this is one fungus you’d want to avoid.
