What was it like to live with physical disability at home in early America? In this talk, Rutgers University public historian Nicole Belolan discusses everyday objects such as wheelchairs and bedsteads people used to get around or stay in one place at home before the era of a formalized assistive technology industry. She connects this history to that of some of former inhabitants of the Longfellow House-Washington's Headquarters National Historic Site and provide insight into the history of disability history itself.
