13 Signs Someone Is Secretly Insecure

How to know if someone is insecure? Certain signs of insecurity are obvious; others not so much. In fact, some signs someone is insecure are often mistakes for confidence. That’s because insecure people often project a false image of themselves to others. However, their behaviors and body language often give them away. Human psychology is so revealing!

Insecurity usually stems from low self esteem and a general lack of confidence. And while not every insecure person shows signs of insecurity the same way, if someone displays a number of the following behaviors, they may very well be secretly insecure.

the root of insecurity is fear, and where there is fear, love cannot exist

"People who always have to one-up you in everything. If you tell a story, they have a better one. If you buy something expensive, they have to buy something even more expensive. Some people’s whole life is trying to win some nonexistent competition

I think it’s important to note that we can all have feelings of insecurity sometimes, we’re human, but it doesn’t necessarily make us insecure people.

the insecurity due to distant parent, avoiding contact and wanting to be self reliant is sooo true, this is absolutely me, I never realised that made me insecure, but thr might be some degree of truth about it

Don't some of these signs indicate that you may be an empath? Many people don't need other's validation or want to put up with other's BS so they
probably don't want to socialize as much.

I recognise most of these traits in someone close to me. I would also add, constantly apologising for things that don’t require it - an apology which costs the person nothing to make, and on the other hand, seeming to find it impossible to apologise when there’s a genuine need for it. This can be extremely frustrating to live with. These are surely signs of insecurity because by apologising, the person is crying out for others to say, “Oh, no need to apologise!” and boost them up and make them feel better, and by not apologising when they should, they are also showing insecurity because they think it makes them look weak to admit that they were wrong. I think this is quite a common thing among men in particular, who find it harder to admit they were wrong than women (don’t shout me down, anyone - it’s just a general observation!). In my opinion, admitting you were wrong and apologising for it, is a sign not of weakness, but of strength.

Some points actually indicate someone to be an introvert rather than insecure. We can also suggest people who can't be alone and want company all the time are insecure, but they are just extrovert.

This is called being human. All of people i know, including me, display this kind of behavior, maybe not all, but some.

I used to be so insecure bc I weigh more than 90 percent of girls my age but then I said its ok. You are exactly who you are supposed to be. Love yourself and don't change for no one

Sometimes you have to fake it to make it. No one would like to be perceived as "weak". We live in a competitive world. It's stressful to keep up appearances 😞

My parents would yell at me if I cried as a child. I learned to hide my emotions, at least until I could make it to my room. Something I find comfort in is putting my legs up to my chest and resting my arms and chin on my knees. That’s what I would do to try to cry silently and try not to attract my parents attention.

Now I always do that, wether it’s because I’m sad, or the fact that it’s a habit. Normally when I have negative thoughts or just a bad day, I normally stay in that position. I could be at school, at home, a basketball game, I just find comfort in it. Sometimes for no reasons I put my knees to my chest, put my hands on my ankles, and put my head on my knees. It just makes me feel better. Not the hugging yourself stuff. I get what you mean though, that’s very smart
