I’m considering an M4 pro. I tried the iPad for one week 😅 I installed all native apps and I used webapps versions of the apps I had on my windows laptop. You can’t code or script on a iPad, so for scripting I use a remote app to access my laptop, I can kinda live with is solution.. But there is one thing I can’t overcome and is very annoying. As far as I know is that when you want to download or upload files/photos from an app (google photos, canva, wetransfer etc) you NEED to keep the particular app active till the download is finished, otherwise the download will stop. Probably iPadOs freezes the app when you switch to another app, this end up to download all files again. So in my opinion you can’t really multitask with the iPad. It is more like multi-windowing instead of multitasking. I used an iPad Pro 2nd gen for this experiment.

Altho ipads can't do everything but I really enjoy having it as my "backup plan". Recently my macbook failed on me and while waiting for it to be fixed, I was able to do some simple work tasks on my ipad from 2018 (it's not even a pro model). I love my ipad!

I too have been using the iPad Pro 11” for the last 6 years, & feel the same as you do Fernando, time to upgrade, however I’m keeping this little gem. Updating to the 13” Pro with the M4, & if that gives me the same experience as we have both had for the last 6 years, I’ll be a happy little Vegemite. Sorry that in Oz means the same as a “Happy Little Camper!” Thanks, great revue!!

iPad is perfectly able to be most people’s main computer, however I prefer my MacBook for heavier workloads because I like navigation on MacOS better than iPadOS and web version over most apps.

I have been using my iPad Pro as my main computer since 2018 with the 11 inch. I just upgraded to an M1 12.9 inch because I got a great deal on a refurbished model from Apple. I can’t believe how good the mini LED display is.

You totally got it to the point. I love my iPad, for what it is and I dont want it to be something else. Is it perfect? No it isnt, but is a MacBook perfect? No it isnt, either.
I have the luck having the Situation you mentioned for years now. A Desktop Mac and an iPad and I love it that way.
Is there something I would wish for? Yes there are three things to make the iPad perfect.

A MacBook class Finder,
The Ability to run Mac Apps,
And a wider Support for external Hardware like multiple Cameras.

I really dont want it to run Mac OS

I’m one of those who have made the iPad their main computer. (I’m actually primarily using an iPad Mini, although I have an iPad Pro, because of how much I enjoy that form factor.)

My 13’’ iPad Pro M4 is became my main computer. It’s replace my ex MacBook Pro M3 Max. I use it like I use my ex MacBook as a professionnel photographer and it’s work.

I had been waiting for this video for about 15 years. Today got myself a 12.9" 2017 version. Having a blast. A bit dissapointed with the video playing performance on super high resolution videos.

The iPad is Apple’s version of a Chromebook. The value proposition is not the cost, it’s the reliability and ease of use.

I couldn’t use it for work as a software developer, but it absolutely works for my personal life: email and messages, ebooks and PDF, journaling and note taking, tracking finances, occasionally watching videos, scanning and filing documents…all sorts of things.

I’ve also found that security conscious environments that would prohibit bringing a personal laptop to work don’t always object to a tablet.

It's great that you've made it work for your use-case, but I'd rather a device that works around my needs rather than one that I have to adapt to.

To me, the best portable computer I've ever bought is the Surface Pro 11. I use a Mac at home and it's great, but on the go, I need something that is portable, versatile, and capable, and unfortunately, the iPad Pro or the MacBook don't cut it. The Surface Pro is like both those devices in one.

🐬 From photo editing, to animation in Procreate, to media consumption ( I forget that I’m watching YouTube on one ) It’s all I need.

The Nanit app chugs through the battery right? But so necessary!

My main computer is my iPad and it works well for almost everything I want to do. It is the most ultraportable of my devices, except my phone, and goes with me everywhere even inside the house. My 14” MacBook Pro is far clunkier and harder to lug around than an iPad, which is the main reason the iPad has become my go-to machine. The dedicated apps are also better than the web experience for most things, though there are exceptions to this.
