Followed these directions and got Plex running, but couldn't stream any movies (MKV files). Then found your "Fix Plex" video and that did the trick. Was able to switch between my current Plex server (a Win7 VM) and "possible" future Plex server (OMV). Was successful on Roku and Web. Surprised that it would actually transcode Window Media Lossless Audio Files too - but with some imperfections. Overall - testing of OMV is possible via your directions. Thanks again.

Thank you for this thorough guide. I was a bit "rusty" with debian, but after watching your video, took me only an hour to setup the server, users, permissions and file management - also the setup for the plex server was a breeze ! Kudos to you sir ! :-) !

Thank you for this video, plex actually has its own official docker now too!

fun fact. If you use Roku and try to use plex it will not work since the latest update. I was going crazy because my setup worked for months and then it wouldnt work on any roku box. My phone worked, and laptop but nothing worked on Roku. I figured it out. If you run Tomato or DD-WRT and have "
Use DNSMasq for DNS" turned on the latest app will break. You have to either write an exception for plex.com and plex.tv on to the router. Or disable this setting to get it to work. If you dont, it will claim your server is offline, the plex service is stopped, or the file is missing.

There i saved you 30 hrs worth of headaches.

Great, but how do I install this docker thing? It looks like it installed, I can see some options for it, but I do not see it listed under Services.

Thanks for making this video. I've noticed that the OMV-Extras has a "Plexmediaserver" repo. I was planning on using that for a Plex Media Server but then I discovered your video on using Docker. What is the difference between the OMV-Extras version and the Docker version? Why choose one over the other? It seems to me that putting Docker into the equation would create an extra layer of complexity, but perhaps it resolves a layer of complexity in the OMV-Extras version? I'd love to know. Thanks. Or maybe this could be the topic of a new video?

Is there a way to add multiple "/media" arguments? In case you have two volumes for example.

For those who can't get to their webui - doing this on a MergerFS or UnionFS setup, the config doesn't like being on the merged section. I fixed this by changing my config location to the install drive of my OMV install.

Thanks for this - I just got a new modem/router combo and now when I sign into plex it says I do not have access to the server. Do you know what could cause this? I have networked access to my drives on the OMV with no issues...

I've tried to follow along with your installs of Openmediavault I have it up and running but when I tired to follow along with your installs for Docker and Shellinabox as well as Plex. My screens are different. Docker after install doesn't show up under Services. There is no Shellinabox under OMV-Extras and my OMV-Extras looks different as well. When I select OMV-Extras all I see is "Settings", "Docker", "Cockpit" and "Kernal". Why so much difference I'm running OMV 5. Is it a user install error? Please help.

Thanks for your Vids, helped me out a lot. I had some issues with transcoding and Plex. I tried to assign the right permissions and exec on Files and Folders in the Plex Docker, but nothing worked fior me. After that i made a Plex Folder outside the sharedfolders and lead the path from the docker to that folder. Now transcoding for Webservice and my Ps4 work. No need to do anything after the Docker setup is done.

Hi, I have an old pc with debian based Q4OS linux distro and I need to connect 4 hard drives with windows and mac backups and I would like to create a server with raid sharing of all hard drives and including a continuous and incremental backup even smartphones and ipads in the family ... I was thinking about nextcloud and openmediavault and seafile but something else would probably be missing to perfect everything and for example the search for folders on different file systems and compatibility of the various connected slides, I also thought of transferring all the photos from my cloud storage like google photos, gcloud and icloud. I forgot ... I also have nvidia shield which can act as a nas if it would be enough and without paying plex. Advice?

Where did you get the Docker integration with OMV??

How do you update an already installed and running Plex server in Docker on my OMV server? On the github page it mentions you need to use the -e VERSION=docker parameter in the Dockerfile (or it will not update automatically), but I installed it via Docker in OMV so do not see where that needs to be added. I am being prompted in my Plex client interface that an update is available: "A Plex Media Server update is available for the server debian! 1.15.2.793"

I would very much appreciate if you could do a set up video of installing Plex on OMV5 with Portainer. Thank you!

Thank you very much for this and all other helpful guides of yours. Everything works fine so far. Please could you create a guide to run nextcloud in the docker for omv4? the docker for nextcloud is available in the omv extras for omv4. I'm only up to the installation. I do not have the "know how"" for the configuration.
