Women against Gender Reform Bill protest today as JK Rowling wears anti-Nicola Sturgeon t-shirt

A Scottish Parliament committee backed the general principles of the Gender Recognition Reform (Scotland) Bill, which would allow people to self-ID as the opposite sex without a medical diagnosis.

The proposed changes to the Gender Recognition Act have led to heated debate in Scotland with those opposing the move warning it will harm women’s rights.

But, those in favour have branded feminist organisations and politicians who raise concerns transphobes, with police forced to intervene.

SNP MSP Joanna Cherry, who opposes the GRA changes, has been the victim of vile online abuse and threats.

She said: “Today feminist women who oppose self-id will protest outside Holyrood."
