I LOVE his podcasts!
#KatiFAQ
Hey Kati,
So my family has become increasingly interested in my anorexia recently. I have struggled with it for a couple of years, but they have typically just skirted around the topic. It has been really hard because I have always been the problem solver. I am the level headed one who always makes the mature decision. It is difficult having them pry into my life because I am normally the ones helping them. I feel like it adds a whole new level of awkwardness. I feel like on top of struggling with my eating disorder, now my role within my family is being undermined. It is also difficult because I am living at home while I attend university…so I am an adult being constantly looked after by my parents. My main issue is feeling so weird that I am the problem instead of the problem solver!

Love Paul ❤❤❤ his podcast is such a healing (and funny) place. He was the first person to really not sound corny or clinical talking about this stuff. His joke-to-serious ratio is perfect on the show too 😂

Group therapy with a 12 step foundation is amazing. AA, NA, Al-Anon, CoDA, ACA, EA are all amazing programs.

I too am an active member of AA and I always wish there was a similar program and similar support for eating disorders. Obviously there are treatment centers and support groups, but it's nothing like the scale of AA and it isn't as tried and true. One thing that is definitely missing from ED recovery is a sponsorship or mentorship program. I can't tell you how amazing it is to have a sponsor, and not just for alcohol recovery. She's just a general mentor in my life, and even people with no mental illness at all can benefit from that guidance. I feel like if people had a mentor to guide them through ED recovery in the same way, that would be so helpful and fewer people would have relapses.

Ah thank you so much for this video Kati. I love Paul's podcast and find it so helpful to hear others talking about their struggles and knowing I'm not alone in my feelings. Between Paul's podcast and your videos I feel supported in a way I haven't before. x

I love group therapy. When I was in an IOP for OCD it was like 90% group therapy and it was amazing to be with other people who actually UNDERSTOOD me! I feel that a lot of people are missing peer support like that in their recovery.
Now my psychologist is trying to start a support group at the CBT center I get therapy at so I'm excited to be back in that group setting hopefully soon. :) Vlogging and talking to people online about mental health has helped fill that void since the IOP, but there is nothing like being face to face with a group of people who are struggling with and recovering from the same things you are. :)

I go to a transgender and gender questioning group and it's really great because we talk about our emotional states as well as strategies for social transition. We also share tips on navigating bureaucracy or the medical field for people who are going through legal or physical transition.

I knew I recognized him once the video started. I agree that going off the meds isn't for everyone, but neither are meds. Meds completely turned me into a different person and didn't sit well with me. I'm glad I stopped taking them. Thanks for featuring him in your video.

Support groups are awesome! I totally agree with everything you said in this video. I, too, felt like maybe I didn't qualify to go to group (because I had not had a full blown depressive episode in over two years) but after the first meeting I realised how alike we all were there and how I could relate to their struggles so much. I coudn't sleep that night because I was so excited and moved by this experience. I kept going and I fell into a bad depressive episode a few months later and I was so glad that by that time I had already contact to that group and members of it!
Right now I can't go because unfortunately I have another appointment at the very time of the meetings, but maybe I'll find a solution for that.

It made me very happy to see you two collab on video! I regularly listen to the podcast and regularly watch your videos, so this was a very welcome treat! Not to mention the great information! Truly a 'waiting room that doesn't suck'!

Thank you Kati, this was a very informative topic and left me more inspired to find more meetings. The one I went to last weeppointing, because the person in charge of the NAMI meeting never showed up and just me and another woman were there.    I can totally understand your friend being off meds. I accidentally took my night time meds in the morning and by that same evening my mood totally changed. I was more angry and would raise my voice very fast. Fortunatly my wife understood why I was acting like that once I told her I took the wrong combination. This topic really hit home for me and I appreciate all you have done for us all so far, all you are going to continue to do, and know that you are an awesome person. Thank you.

Thank you so much, Katie, for posting this video! I've attended a couple of group therapy sessions, but felt too afraid to even share anything with them since I didn't know anyone. It's nice to know that it does get better. Maybe I will go back to that group or a different one, if I need the extra support. Keep up with all the videos! I always look forward to watching them.

Hey Kati, great video! I was wondering if you could make a video about religion and how that can affect you mentally? I grew up in the Arkansas as part of the Bible Belt and wondered if you had any advice on finding yourself after taking a step back from the church.
