This is the video that really helped me start “unlocking the fretboard” and I really can’t thank you enough. I’ve been teaching myself guitar for about 6 years now and things didn’t start making sense until I found your channel. You’re the best!!

Wow...new sub! So grateful I found you on Marty's channel @ Marty Music. Your ability to communicate is incredible. I've been "playing" for 40 years. Yet never understood the fret board. Ha, at 61...you're inspiring me to really learn now and begin these practice sessions...so I can learn to not only mimic other songs, but attempt to create my own music. Thank you Chris.

Great use of visual overlays to communicate the concept of intervals as the distance between notes. Next level clarity. Great as always, @chris.

Great fundamental knowledge here. Your lesson with LoG a while back takes this concept further.
Thanx Chris!

You're an exceptional teacher. Also I covet your orange Les Paul.

Thank you Mr Sherland. The lesson here for me was to not over think intervals.

Yeah yeah yeah… A power chord, simple.

But I never thought of using a power chord, perhaps the simplest of a chord shape, as a template to plot out the rest of my intervals.
I’m actually mad at myself for not seeing this before, it should have been obvious. Now, I literally can’t “unsee” this. What an amazing tool a power chord is, after all!

Thanks to you Chris, now I’m sitting here, playing a power chord first, then reaching about with various fingers to “plink” out different dyads, and deeply meditating with my ears, on how each interval interacts with the chosen root… Lovely lesson!

Very useful - I’d not considered mapping intervals like that.

Hey, everyone
It's real good to slow this video down to about half speed. Especially if you like a beer now and then. Sounds like Sherland is buzzed. Had to laugh. Enjoy your Friday! Ty, Chris ...

When Tony Iommi first hit flat five by accudent heavy metal was invented. Love that content Chris . I am old enough to know all that stuff but still it is great to watch. Cheers

Hey Chris. Love your stuff and teaching methods. I’m currently not making much do-re-mi. When the dough starts flowing again - which it will - I’ll be joining the site. Peace

Great lesson Chris. About six months ago I started harmonizing a scale using intervals. I concentrated on thirds and sevenths. It has helped my ear training greatly. Question, would you recommend spending time where the root was the higher pitch in the respective interval? For now I have enough on my plate just applying today’s lesson as you’ve described. I wonder if my question is a law of diminishing returns or if later that might be useful as well. Curious of your comments. Is that something you spent much time on as you were learning the instrument?

Nice paint on that Strat. Is that a Custom Fiesta Red and what does the 21 signify? The pups also sound great, very throaty. What pups are they?
