I'm a huge space nut and have always been obsessed with planets, solar systems, galaxies and everything thing else in the universe. One thing that used to really drive me nuts as a kid was having been taught that everything in the universe is speeding away from us in all directions, getting farther and farther away by the second... but that the Andromeda galaxy and the Milky Way are on a collision course with one another and will eventually merge as one. So, being told everything is moving away in all directions and that another galaxy was headed toward us wasn't something my eight year old brain, at that time, could handle. Honestly, I'm 39 now and understand far more about space but I'd be lying if I said the collision between our galaxy and Andromeda -- which is currently 2.5 million light years away from us -- doesn't still trigger me.
