Definitely wisdom in what Carl was saying here, but also some danger. Remember, this is the "scientist" who believed the universe exploded into being, out of nothing. Nothing could be more unscientific. And when he says "must" regarding education, is he purporting that forcibly educating the masses to embrace what he thinks is the way to go?

Extreme care must be taken when implementing policies with these at heart. Science becomes "the science" through "experts" who are actually advocates or zealots for woke ideology.

Where Sagan asks "Who runs science?", and "What happens when people don't understand science?", I say the best and proper scientists that come up with near irrefutable observations of reality will rise to the top, regardless of politics. It just should be that government be so small that politics cannot use legal violence to oppress the real scientists.

Recall Galileo, Newton, etc. All the egos, feelings, customs "hurt" by their findings don't matter in the end.

The real problem is people who do know science being influenced by politics, and turning it into this ridiculous idea of “settled science” which cannot be questioned.
Calling skeptics, “deniers” and trying to get them censored (calling their arguments “misinformation “). I.e. scientists acting like religious fundamentalists.

The creationists and the religious right have been a disaster for decades for critical thinking in America. Sagan as always was a wise man ahead of his time when religious dogma ruled the American discourse.
