My grandpa, full of lead: 👴
My dad, full of asbestos: 🥸
Me, full of microplastics: 😎

there are infact bacteria capable of digesting plastics due to pollution creating a strong evolutionary gradient.

It is sadly impossible to avoid any exposure to microplastics. All we can do is mitigate their impacts.

It's like we never stopped poisoning ourselves since medieval times

1800s ➡️ Lead

1900s ➡️ Asbestos

2000s ➡️ Microplastics

Will we ever get a break?

The fact stated at 4:26 is incorrect; not only is the molecule shown organic, but so are the majority of plastics. Organic, in the 'science' field, means that the molecule contains carbon. The phrases better suited for this topic include, "not found in nature, " or, "synthetic."

We're basically screwed but I was an evil person for saying "we should go back to using more glass and paper bags" about 10 years ago

It's sad that a material so useful to us also causes harm to both us and the environment.

Edit some idiot tried to blame on capitalism. There's a stupid argument abt it in the comments now.

it's crazy to think that we've had plastics in us since birth

How your organs deal with micro-plastics...
Lungs: "Doh!"
Heart: "Doh!"
Intestines: "Doh!"
Kidneys: "I got this!" 😂

4:37 this is not entirely true there is microbes and even fungi that are actively digesting plastic and breaking it down into monomers with enzymes however the process is extremely slow scientists are currently attempting to create better bacteria that can digest plastic faster through either selective breeding or just brute force genetic engineering
