-A polygraph can't really detect the lie itself. It only captures physiological changes that occur in the body when a person is lying. These changes can include a fast pulse, sweating, unusual breathing, and high blood pressure.
-Get ready 24 hours before the test so that your body is in tip-top shape. Don't skip any meals before the test. Take your usual medicines. Remember comfort is key.
-The results of people who feel anxious while answering each question turn out to be the most accurate according to statistics.
-Examinees are too worried about being asked trap-questions while taking the test since they’re convinced that that's what they should actually be careful about.
-Listen to each question till the end, try to understand it, and take your time with the answer.
-Go to your happy place so that you feel more relaxed during the test.
-A polygraph is capable of distinguishing a deceptive reaction to physical pain, and examiners often ask people to take their shoes off since they’re all-too familiar with popular ploys.
-After you’ve taken the test, a post-test interview will await you. A reviewer will come to the room to discuss your results.
-You should NOT take a polygraph test if you have heart disease, are pregnant, have a respiratory illness, are epileptic, or suffer from general pain.

Not only have i taken them before but one of my brothers took one . They claimed i lied when i know i was telling the truth to every question. And they claimed my brother actually lied about his own name . You would think he knows his own name . Therefore I do not trust them what so ever .

I was part of a Psychology Research project for a Ph.D candidate back in the late 70's and was given a scenario to have in mind when taking the actual test at a well-known facility. They were given a "story" that myself and another person had stolen money and office supplies at a University building. They were to test us and determine who was "guilty" and who was "innocent". I should tell the final piece of the story - my "accomplice" was a young African American, while I am Caucasian. His story was that he was innocent, while I was guilty of taking the money / supplies. When we got to testing firm, they immediately separated us into different rooms, and commenced testing. The outcome was that the other student was "lying", even though his instructions said he didn't steal anything... and I was found "innocent" even though my instructions were that I was the guilty party! They were actually going to call the cops and have him arrested! We had to then call the research director and get him to explain what was going on, so they didn't take my friend to jail! It was at that point that I have NEVER trusted these machines and/or their operators again!

I've been through this. Passing a Lie detector can be a little easy. What makes it harder is when you got cops staring at your eyes. Tips is this a day or HOURS before you get in the "Hot Seat" is take a deep breath, and lower your heart beat and pressure. And when your in the seat just try to be and keep things normal and just stay calm and focus on something. Another tips is what ever question they ask you you can trick yourself (work best if you get have time to prepare your mind) if you don't want to answer. You can be like If you go to the store and stole a candy bar, in your mind i'll make myself BELIEVE someone bought it and gave it to me.

These "tips" play right into the hands of the test! All you need to do is react to control questions... Relevant questions : react calm.. induce pain during control questions (wear uncomfortable clothes!)
