lie detectors are modern version of calling a scientist a witch and burning him

How to cheat it:
When you are sitting in the chair and the investigator asks you a question, just change the question in your head. For example: "Did you rob the bank?" In your head you change it to "Did you rob the bank(in your dreams)". Since you have not dreamed about it, you won't lie. Now you passed the test.

Lie Detectors are old technology and should be put out of comission
What if a witness with social anxiety were being tested by it?
What if he said "Yes" with honesty but due to his anxiety, the device tells it as a lie?

It's not a lie... if you believe in it.

Being stressed makes the lie detector detect stuff as lies.
Also the thought of a lie detector makes you stressed.

Hey, did he remember to take the tack out of his shoe? Stomping out of the session is cool, but with the tack in place, it could prove to be rather painful?

Mythbusters already did this... I have heard the best way to defeat the test is to deliberately try to increase your pulse/breathing/sweating during the baseline questions. That way the threshold which is considerd 'lying' is much higher.

If you ever get a chance to test a lie detector operator, do this: Have him test 10 people. Tell him in advance that ONE of the people had to have stolen money, because there was money missing, and only those 10 people had any slightest possibility of access to the money. Do this when, in fact, there was NO MONEY MISSING to begin with! You will find that the polygraph operator WILL give you a suspect, every time! If his system was accuarate, there would be NO suspect.

Polygraphs are essentially useless against psychotics and sociopaths.
.
Being a psychotic / sociopath isn't like the popular belief. In summation, its simply being able to decide to do anything you want, without the emotional ramifications everyone else gets. You can literally decide to feel guilt, decide to feel jealous, decide to feel afraid, and decide to feel nothing.
.
For that reason psychopaths can quite simply just decide to be emotionless, and undetectable for a polygraph.

Of course everyone is a lie detector expert on the internet, I'd expect nothing less. It's just so damn easy isn't it.

Um- this is just a thought:

Why didn't he remove the tack/ pin before the second half of questions?
The way I saw it was that if the pin was causing still causing pain and then his stress levels rose it would have increased his rates.

NB: I know that he probably wasn't pressing his toe against the tack for the second part of the interrogation...but he must have felt little pricks still.
