4GB RAM and 64GB storage should be illegal in 2021!

The base model is more of a marketing play. No one should EVER purchase a laptop with less than 8gb, and that has been the case for the past 6 years. They make the base model so that they can advertise a low starting price.

As someone that used to work at Microsoft, don't ever buy the base versions. Ever.

If you’re a student looking for a laptop, the minimum specification should be at least i5 8GB of ram and 256GB of ssd.

The 4GB model only exists so they can promote the "starting price" while expecting customers to move up to the premium model after comparing specs.

I myself just bought the laptop, and it’s actually really nice. I bought it in sandstone, 8gb ram and 128 storage, therefore giving me the little storage I need for games and school as a high school student. However, though I’m unsure why you purchased a 4gb laptop, it’s completely understandable! Next time, if possible, purchase a laptop with not only the storage you need, but the comfort as well!

Have a nice day!

Spend the extra $100 and get the 8gb ram 128gb ssd version. It's the perfect student laptop. Also something isn't adding up with the battery life, it should last 7 hours

Yeah, when Microsoft did that, I was like wtf even my phone has more ram and storage.

I have a Lenovo IdeaPad 5 as my "student laptop" and I'm absolutely loving it!! It's fast, has a good performance and battery life. 100% perfect for me!

Amazing Review. I have not seen a review this good on the 4GB Model. All of these things I agree with. I am unsure of why MS continues to provide 4GB versions of its Surfaces for $500+ dollars when it really labors to run basic tasks like MS Teams and Edge. I am rooting for emergence of a 8GB $500+ model of a surface laptop. I agree 8GB is bare minimum for a WCD or Windows based system. Very appreciative.

Of course 4gb of ram and 64gb storage won‘t work for students.
You have to go AT LEAST with the 128/8gb ram version with the newest i5 CPU. It runs as fast as Usain Bolt with this setup.

The mid tier model of the Microsoft Surface Go (i5 128ssd) is a great choice for students as you have the faster SSD storage rather than emmc. Uni students may need a higher spec device depending on their course, but any high school or lower student shouldn't have a problem.

The baseline model is just for trying to draw you in, 4GB ram and eMMC is basically unusable in 2021. I used to use two laptops, one MacBook Pro 2016 and one 2013 ThinkPad S1 Yoga (similar to Surface Laptop Go in someways) for university. The Yoga got 4GB ram, i5 and a 500GB SSD, and it's very slow. So my first big thing I did in 2021 was getting an external SSD, installing Windows 10 onto it, and booting it off my MacBook Pro, and I got a way more usable Windows machine, couldn't be happier. Losing the touch screen (which I rarely used because that machine's so slow!), I got 8GB of ram, newer i5 processor, and a 4K display. Both of them have not very good keyboards, the Mac has the butterfly keyboard which lacks key travels(my keys never got stuck or became stick), and a hard to use but pretty functional touch bar. The Yoga's keys have deeper travels, but several of them already fell off and Lenovo said I have to replace the whole keyboard to get it fixed, and those keys got smaller surfaces which is hard to type for a slow typer like me. Anyway, I'll call it a win.

if I wasn't doing engineering i would've honestly gone for the M1 macbook air, it's a safe bet for most college students who don't need that graphics card horse power

Before I begin, I thought that the Surface Laptop Go was a great device for the money. I liked the thin bezels of the screen, I also enjoyed the typing experience and battery life. However, what I did not like was the screen. The screen just was not bright enough for me in most outdoor situations, and when BestBuy had a sale and an open box of the Surface Pro 7, that was the final reason why I switched and returned the Surface Laptop Go.

Every time I click on one of these videos it's because people bought the base model. I'm not blaming you, I just hate how MS strips the base models down so low just so they can show that base price. Never buy any surface base model. Always go 1 or 2 steps up. For the Surface Laptop Go, the model with 8gb and 128 SSD is the one to get.

Technically. Everyone is saying not to get the base model and to get the next one up. I’m going for the mid model for school. I have a feeling it’s gonna work great. And I hope I’m not gonna be disappointed
