It's great to hear that she was found. Like others though, I'd like to know the whole story. When something seems sketchy, it almost always is.

Great video Ramdino, complete with some laughs!!! Sound advice that we can't be reminded of enough. The mountains never cease to humble, even low miles. We did a short overnight in NC/TN over 4k on the AT on sat and got back last night. There was definitely snow, clear, high wind, sun, rain, cold and man, can the conditions change in a hurry. Be safe when you're out there, but definitely get out there!

Did a 11 mile day hike out of Low Gap - Shady Valley yesterday. Snow was 2-10 inches on the AT. Added neoprene socks with my trail runners and feet were toasty warm. I recommend them! We also had survival gear and a Spot X. Happy winter hiking! ❄️❄️

Good news to hear about the young woman. You are so right about being prepared, I still have my pathfinder boy scout compass from when I was a kid. I have it in my hip pouch on my pack. Happy new year to you and family 👍🌲

I don’t know if someone had already given this info, but on one of the hiker fb pages, someone had shared a post about a couple who had responded to the missing hiker post and they had stayed in a shelter (I can’t remember which one) with a person who fit the equipment description but called herself by a different name. They found out that she had been drinking unfiltered water, wasn’t feeling well and unable to eat. They gave her one of their water filters and some of their food. After they saw the missing post, the reported it to the park authorities. If I can find the post, I’ll send it to you.

The AT skirts the skyline drive so close. Most of the time you can hear the cars. Something is weird. Taffeta is found everywhere in backpacking gear. It’s used mostly in sleeping bag and quilts.

After I heard she went missing, I went down to rockfish gap on the 5th and covered the same stretch of the AT that the poster had mentioned. I was planning a section hike of the AT thru SNP anyway and was curious. Honestly, I have no idea how anybody can get lost there. My conclusion at the time of the hike was that she had gone into the park and done something terrible to herself, so I am really happy she was found.

Nice reporting on this Ramdino! Sounds like the park service doesn't want to release the info.
