Kef Ls50 Wireless Vs. Sonos Play 5 Gen 2 (Stereo Pair). Keith Don't Go.

There are times when Sonos seem to sound better ... and Sonos knows how to "make up" music, it's a bit artificial.
Kef, for his part, shows the sounds a little more neutral, more faithful to the recording. This way, if you play a song with poor recording quality, Sonos makes it sound "prettier."

Kef shows the details with greater texture, the singer's air intake, the sliding of the fingers on the strings and the separation of instruments are more easily perceived.

Sonos has more power on the bass, Kef shows a little weakness there ...

The volume level for the recording was 58% for Sonos and 70% for Sonos ... to match the level.

Raising the Kef volume above 60 makes it much easier to determine a winner, as the speakers come to life much more and their details touch the skin.

Hay momentos en los que parece sonar mejor los Sonos... y es que Sonos sabe "maquillar" la música, es un poco artificial.
Kef, por su parte muestra los sonidos un poco más neutrales, más fieles a la grabación. De esta manera si se pone una canción con mala calidad de grabación, Sonos hace que suene "más bonito".

Kef muestra los detalles con mayor textura, se percibe con más facilidad la toma de aire del cantante, el deslizamiento de los dedos en las cuerdas y la separación de instrumentos.

Sonos tiene más potencia en el bajo, Kef muestra un poco ahí su debilidad...

El nivel de volumen de la grabación fue de 58% para Kef y 70% para Sonos... para igualar el nivel.

Al elevar el volumen de Kef por encima del 60 es mucho más fácil determinar un ganador, pues los parlantes cobran mucha más vida y sus detalles tocan la piel.

I've purchased both recently to test them. If you like music that moves you (most people), get the Sonos. If you mostly listen to mainstream music like pop, R&B and hip hop, get the Sonos! If you are trying to mix music and need accuracy, you wouldn't even be looking at these two speakers. Btw, the kef software alone is a total deal breaker. Sonos software is like Apple-esque magic.

The truth is no amount of YouTube videos will help you decide which one you will enjoy better, because that will never substitute the real thing. You MUST listen to them in YOUR room. Not someone else's room, through their video and your speakers.

I have a pair of Sonos Five. I adjust the Eq settings on the Sonos app to my liking and the sound is amazing. The KEF does have an amazing acoustic sound. Both are winners!

They both sound very good, however I seem to detect more 'details' and a feeling that the artist in performing right there in the room with the KEFs. With the Sonos the performance seems like it's on a stage a distance from me. All this from a YouTube compressed video file and sound coming through my Kanto YU4. It is subjective.

Kef puts you into the live performance. With the Sonos there’s a disconnect. Kef is engaging and begs for active listening. Sonos is comfortable and suitable to casual listening. The bass works in harmony with the mids and highs with the Kef—not too dominant and not to passive. With the Sonos the bass covers and shadows the mids and highs rather than supporting and letting them shine. Kef is not for everyone. In the realm of comfortable and familiar sounding audio, Sonos is sitting near the top. However, for the people that appreciate detail—an honest and revealing interaction with the source—Kef 👑

I have a Sonos play 5 and the new five and you can tell the difference of sound quality, and then I turned the bass to the max and treble to level 1 out of 10 and it’s so loud and it sounds amazing, I’m not going to buy Kefs speakers because of the high price. I’d rather get a Diamondboxx xl2

No me puedo creer que lo que estoy escuchando haya sido grabado con un mobil porque el sonido que suele grabar resulta siempre como muy "enlatado", anyway amazing track and i love how Kef sounds tho i have to say in this video probably due to you tube compression it's difficult to see much of a difference between the two bookshelf speakers.

Nice comparison but it would help if the output levels were matched better 🙏, louder sources (up to a point) instantly sound better and reveal more details. Also were the same speaker positions being used..??

Not a good test. Terrible placement for the sonos on the wood. Did you use trueplay? I have a stereo pair and they dont sound like this.

Clear as day and night. Kef is a ref./monitor system. Sonos is way too artificial and non ref. Still oke for normal listning but no good for audiophiles like myself.
