I scored very highly on the psychopathy scale in my mid 20’s. It helped me understand why I rarely felt empathy or remorse. I was always inept at reading people and loved body language. Once diagnosed I saw it as a deficit in certain areas and a gift in others. I worked hard to develop feelings of empathy. I questioned every move I made to see, honestly, what I was trying to achieve and what it self serving. I’m now 49, very successful, happily married for 7 years. I manage it like a cross between a head injury and a superpower. I can very quickly have someone like and trust me. It’s then up to me not to abuse that trust. If I’m angry, I can turn my emotions off in an instant so I try not to get angry. I see it as a doubled edged sword that must be managed and used for good. My one problem is I often have the feeling that I don’t know who I truly am. I’m working on that and try always to opt for good.

My facial recognition ability pathetic. These two guys look exactly the same to me, apart from one has longer hair. It's really depressing because I can hardly recognise people, especially when they are not in the places I associate them with, or are dressed differently. I struggle to watch movies because I mix up the actors. People I know think I am ignoring them in public. All this has nothing at all to do this (very enjoyable) video - I just needed to vent.. i think i'm a bit of a Sociopath if im being honest with myself. i feel like the older i get the less i care, but i would never hurt anyone "break all the rules". I have no problem cutting people off.

I thought that psychopaths got enjoyment from others pain and sociopaths lack empathy, so are socially manipulative to gain power, whereas psychopaths find playing with the power dynamic fun, and are manipulative for their own pleasure? can someone help clarify which way round these traits would be

This kinda proves that you can study or be a psychologist and know little or only the surface on a certain topic, an expert on psychopathology would better explain this. Sociopathy or antisocial personality disorder include lack of empathy and remorse, like psychopathy, but sociopaths differ because they are more impulsive, irresponsible and reckless, where as psychopaths are more calculative and cold. So its not just which lacks more, but the traits really. Also sociopaths are a product of negative enviroment and parenting, while psychopaths are a bit of both.

The way I like to think of sociopaths is as territorial they feel empathy but lack remorse when someone threatens them or their environment they attack and manipulate without remorse and empathize later so that it can help them in the future to manipulate their surroundings to fit their liking

I’m a pschyopath. I don’t know if this is trauma related but my guilt goes under the radar. I always want to know logic behind things. I say stuff that may be socially inappropriate, thus making me lose a lot of friends. I say mean stuff without knowing, and have no care for it.
