The new Toyota Prado 250 Series is the biggest motoring release in Australia for 2024. And in the lead-up to its November release, Chasing Cars went along to the new model’s all-important ANCAP testing regime to witness crash testing first hand.

Chasing Cars’ Olek Novak takes us through the protocols of the frontal offset crash testing and shares his experience on what it’s like inside ANCAP Crashlab as the drama unfolds.

ANCAP also gives us insight into the broader testing process and reveals how the Prado fared against the latest 2024 assessment protocols.

Could you show us how ANCAP score the poor driver assistance tech that send drivers of new cars insane?

Do ANCAP test the driver attention monitoring in new cars? Since this data may impact insurance premiums in the future it would be interesting to see how accurate it is.
I received an email from an insurer with a questionaire regarding using driver attention data provided by new cars and insurance premiums

I'd like to see all the Chinese evs tests please. ANCAP only seems to test cars they know are safe.

Pointless testing these in 50kmph tests when they are the vehicle of choice for the tow too much van crowd. They should really be testing these getting flipped over by the van when towing 3.5 t.

Surely the real impact on a smaller vehicle or pedestrian should be tested with a real opposing vehicle or a life-size dummy. Then we might really see the true impact of these behemoths with blunt front ends on smaller vehicles and pedestrians.

ANCAP needs to be scrapped. Why do we need to duplicate tests done in Europe and North America on the same cars. Are we that self-important?

Pointless when we don't make vehicles here anymore.
If its ok to import everything, it's ok to accept overseas testing.

At what speed was this test carried out or is it one of the tests carried out by the controlled brand because so much publicity has been given to this test, the truth will be known later
