100k for 6 month services, useless boot, 2.6 tonnes and the slowest 0-100 in just about any production car. They've had 15 years to sort out the new model. Nice work Toyota

Imagine if a Chinese manufacturer delivered a boot like this Prado, we would never hear the end of it.

IMHO from a 150 VX Owner who was looking to upgrade

Positives
- Looks great from the outside
- Front dash and front seating area are excellent
- Tech and screens look fantastic
- 8 speed auto

Negatives
- Approx 10k + more expensive across the range
- No gas struts for bonnet
- No ski port
- 48 V mild hybrid adds complexity, and dubious benefits
- Ad Blue addition and still has a DPF
- Same carryover engine 2.8 L GD with no more power/torque
- Seven seat set up is a backwards step with a much smaller amount of boot room/very high lip, plastic storage ‘box’ and lack of room for a fridge - Toyota says seats can’t be removed due to battery underneath
- Weighs 250-300kg more
- Cool box is much smaller than 150 on VX+
- Rear seats/2nd row don’t slide back-and-forth for more space
- Only 2, 5 seat variants the GX and the altitude to avoid to limited boot space
- Fuel tank is 110 L - less than 150 L from the Prado 150
- Smaller boot opening height than the 150
- no rear Diff lock in anything but the altitude - more models in old 150 have both
- Payloads approx 100kg less than old 150’s
- Stop start
- Wheel not on the back, under car
- Glove box and storage in the front is small I.e no sunglasses holder, storage above gearshift in cubby
- Driver monitoring system annoyance
- No space for a dual battery under bonnet
-Sliding GVM kg, moves up and down depending on model grade. Previous Prado was fixed GVM for all models, with payload increasing as you went down the range with less kit.

- [ ] Wait for the hybrid 2.4 L turbo from USA
- [ ] Wait for more five seat variants in all grades like New Zealand is getting next year
- [ ] GX or altitude five seats are the current pick

I just bought a 2024 Nissan Patrol Ti. This review just reinforces my decision

100 k for that bunnings storage box in boot. No thanks.

Worst thing is, (or best), it will increase the resale value of 150 series prado.

** For Paul: love how you tackle flies with your hand gestures while reviewing. For a foreigner, it could be a new aussie thing. 😅

Paul why does Toyota Australia treat us like idiots as if people would buy the new version prado with a boot like that as well as the old 4cylinder motor from prado years ago America gets a better choice of motors than us

Paul 100% serious here put on a cork hat for the flies. Show some old school Aussie tech 😉

3:22 luckily you pointed that tow bar cover out because Toyota did such a great job matching the paint code that I would have never spotted it! 😂😂😂
Jeez cars like this just show how much Toyota don’t need to worry about good car design because people just buy it for the badge.
Keep up the great work Paul.
Cheers Pat

Thanks for showing the driver attention monitor in action. I don't think I've seen anyone else demonstrate it until a full stop. A private track and a second set of eyes really comes in handy!

Torsen a useless when one wheel is off the ground. They need both wheels on the ground to function as an lsd. One wheel off the ground and it turns into an open diff. As you can see in the video. Plate lsd is better for a 4x4 or a locker.

Paul, I’m not sure why you bang on about extended servicing intervals. The only reason I’m chipping you on this point is because of the “car expert “ title. I do enjoy your comparisons but any expert on cars should inform the public that there is not an engine in passenger cars sold that should be serviced beyond 10, 000km intervals. It is a marketing gimmick. This isn’t my opinion, this is a fact given by the experts that are dealing with these engines when they play up. Also, when your Land Rover (or any other extended service vehicle) goes in for its 26, 000km interval they want you to replace the brakes pads and often rotors! because they are concerned it won’t make the next 26, 000km even though they’ll do another 20, 000k’s - big money spinner for the dealships. Just some honest and thoughtful car advice - because people simply don’t know these things.

This thing is going to attract more people to a Land Rover. The price differential is getting narrower and narrower. At least you get a real engine in the Defender and a place to put your toothbrush.

Now we need a side by side comparison with an everest (Ford Everest Platinium vs Toyota LandCruiser Prado VX)

I've been watching a YouTube couple who tow a caravan on and offroad with their new Prado. I do know that they struggle with the transmission temp rising quite high under load. Something to consider. Granted they find that offroad mostly but ranges it tends to climb up in temp aswell.

That tow bar cover is very weird, doesn't even look like the same colour lol

Fly Trap does work, but you need to give it time. Normally doesnt really start working for a day or so after activation.

Had a VX on order but canceled it when I opened the boot.
Went with a Y62 Warrior instead.
I am now very grateful Toyota stuffed it up 😊

Paul the “RIP…” headline grabs need to stop, it’s boring. That aside your work is great and very fair.
