Awesome video!!! I agree with you, I think the big idea here is just an anxious, timid man with trauma from an overbearing and coddling mother. It all feels like a visualization of anxiety and paranoia. The story itself feels like it isn’t really happening, it doesn’t matter much what’s real or not real, it’s just showcasing how badly his trauma has damaged him. And I thought the animated sequence was amazing. Showing how he’s chained to his parents, how if he broke free he could experience real life, even if it’s tragic. But he can’t break free, and at the end he’s crushed by it all. Could be totally wrong because it is Ari Aster😂 but that’s my take. Great vid!

For some reason this feels like a weird Alice in wonderland with people giving things to take or drink, him wanting or needing to go home but especially that Court scene at the end

He never had a brother i thought that was a possibility until he says it was a dream and his mother says it was a memory - also he was an adult in the third person recap and for a moment i thought it was a dissociative personality cliche but really he was just confused about a repressed memory.
Its very hard to tell what was real and what was his perspective but I'm pretty sure the monster was a metaphor for feeling castrated and seeing himself was part of hie oedipal complex.
I know it's early but I wish I could find an "explained" video that is more than a recap of what we saw. I'm not saying that's your fault because I haven't found a deeper dive elsewhere either, but please make another video once the internet has put some of the confusing pieces together: it's better to be wrong about something interpretative than not to speculate at all.
Also I missed some of the crucial dialogue when his mother reveals she's been watching him because me and the person with me lost our shit when we saw the exagferated portrait of the goblin grandmother.

Just found your channel and subbed. It’s been tough to find someone on YouTube give a balanced interpretation of the film. I really think the film was great but it gives a lot to be considered and broken down. Excited to see your video on the symbolism

Love love this movie. I still think about it after for days. I have this urge to watch it again from the beginning and take it all in.

Good explanation! On thing though. It’s not his twin brother. Beau says that he only had the confidence in imagining himself in 3rd person to ask about his father.

Thank you. Not a movie for me, but I love the way you completely explain it in a very simplistic way. Perfection!

me and my gf saw this last night it was good but way too long and kinda confusing bc it was so literal, was expecting more symbolism. relatable though. I would watch it again if it wasn't three hours, my gf liked the dancing guy in jeanshorts so at least there was some funny parts mixed in... but the giant penismonster was too much for us.

Also unrelated but you kinda look like the kid version of him

I thought the man in the attic was Beau’s father. The old man in the forest said that he worked for Beau’s mom, that Beau’s father was still alive, and that he took care of/fed him. That interaction and the bathtub conversation about what happened to his father makes me think that his mom kept him up there. This is also told from Beau’s POV so who knows what reality is.

I’m terms of the cock monster, I don’t have any insight

I have no idea what I just spent more than 6 hours of my life I’ll never get back. Ok I took a lot of breaks. I didn’t get it. I still don’t. I literally think this was the WORST movie I’ve ever watched. Mind blown 🤯
