“You guys’ probably weren’t ready for that. But your kids are gonna love it.”

As someone with anxiety this is the most relatable movie i have ever watched. people who want to understand what mentally unstable amount of anxiety truly feels like should watch this movie

So basically no criticisms that have any substance. I heard no arguments or reasons for not liking the film.

I don't understand why they can't just celebrate that a director got to make something completely original with no studio interference. It's one thing to not like the movie; it's another when you insult someone that wanted to make what THEY wanted and not have someone over their shoulder changing everything. Movies like this should not be able to exist but the fact that Ari Aster made it possible is so inspirational.

Learned our lesson after Mother? He didn't even direct that. That was Darren Aranofsky lol

Idk it was trippy and I think we could all use some more movies like this I liked it. It didn't tell you exactly what's going on. It lets you decide what's happening

If you can't see the beauty within the metaphors and twisted humour that someone like myself who suffered horrid child abuse, sees watching this film then you need to do one.

What does mother! have to do with beau is afraid before seeing it? Granted I did immediately wanna go watch it after beau, settled for black swan, but going on how would you draw that parallel?

This movie blew my mind. I went to go see it a second time because it’s one of those movies you have to watch more than once to completely understand it. Watching it a second time definitely felt different from watching it the first time but in a good way.

I get why a lot of people don’t like the movie, but I hate how they act like there’s no value to it just because they don’t personally get it.

It’s an art film, it wasn’t formulated by committee to be appealing to mass audiences, it was meant to get you thinking, and to encourage you confront complex and dark emotions that conventional narratives don’t really touch.

It can be a lot to handle and it’s not going to resonate with everyone, but it’s still an incredibly creative and unique film, and I’m glad it exists

The film has no plot only themes that is circles for hours. The 7min short film had significantly more substance

I love that one of the reviews is just someone saying “big penis” lmao

I was at a horror convention recently waiting in line to meet James & Chelsea from Dead Meat, and I heard some folks behind me discussing this movie. And one of them said “it has a giant penis monster?! Okay now I HAVE to see this” lol

I can see why most people who just want to casually watch a good movie might hate it. But I really like movies you can think about for weeks after watching, get excited about the bold and unique delivery and style that nothing else offers. There are many horror and thriller movies I enjoyed more in the moment but Beau is afraid offers something more memorable and interesting in the long term. In a way I almost feel like part of an exclusive club that the producer was trying to reach over the average audience member. The same kind of people who Funny Games catered to, as a movie who's purpose was making a miserable and unsatisfying experience for the average viewer. I don't think Ari Aster was trying to make a hit movie. It was a passion project to be enjoyed by those as deeply invested in the same strange, niche genre as he is. And I loved it for that.

Just say you didn’t understand the movie and stop complaining about it. As someone who suffers from a schizophrenia spectrum disorder and had a similar childhood to Beau, this movie was one of the most relatable things I have ever seen in my life. Maybe if you didn’t like it, it’s cause it wasn’t made for you to like it….

I kinda understood it. Being one with severe anxiety and depression in my life. But overall it's just so weird and too long. But I'm still taking it in. Now I didn't like Midsommar either it's trash asf imo. Hereditary was great I love it. But Midsommar and now Beau is afraid. Just makes me not like Ari right now lol. And that's part of the problem with the film critic world. Ari is getting masterpiece claims and how he's so masterful as a director. And yet imo he's yet earned that title. And with Beau being what it is. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if Ari has a hard time getting funding to do another film.

If this was a 6 part miniseries with 30 minute episodes, it would probably get just as much praise as any offbeat streaming show. It’s just that the story doesn’t fit the medium of a theatrical movie whatsoever

Ngl "Mother!" is actually one of my favorite films lmao

All of these things are true, but they're also the reasons why people like the movie lol

I’m my opinion Beau is afraid is one of the most anxiety inducing movies of all time and I understand why people don’t like it but I like the movie
