1 week for hand to hand combat training and 1 week of urban combat training.

HMMWV licenses and knowing how to read your LES! Regardless of MOS, the ability to drive the most used military vehicles and knowing how to read your own paperwork is priceless

In retrospect it seems adequate. At the time seems like forever. Semper Fi.

Water purification training, training to collect water from the air, with basically nothing but basic items. Lidar system acquisitions, to eliminate bad drop zones beforehand knowing what is on the ground in terrain. Or if a squad is already in place, to avoid detection at the highest level, along with thermal evasion with mylar.

Happy birthday SFMF! I celebrated by going to the National museum of the Marine Corps for the cake cutting ceremony. Oldest Marine present was 102 years young! Semper Fi!

If you think about it we don’t actually finish basic training till we finish our MOS training.

i think it's long enough because after boot camp, you have your MOS school.

I am of the opinion that it is just the right length of time for the goal of basically trained Marines. Especially since the addition of the crucible, which I personally believe was the final evolution that was needed.

I wanted to say maybe another week for pistol qual after the rifle, but then I thought having a pistol badge is kind of a unique thing, Like jump wings or a scuba bubble. Only certain MOS's would a junior Marine rate pistol qual. I enjoyed walking around with a pistol badge when I was a private knowing most Marines wouldn't get one until they were a SNCO

Bootcamp is long enough for the purpose it serves. A better question would be, are newly graduated Marines given enough training immediately following Bootcamp? One does not need to stay in recruit status to receive additional training. Semper Fi!

Resilience to unpredictable circumstances.
Mental flexibility, and honing the physical instincts for adaptation.

The last week, which should be at the peak of physical fitness should really be nothing but humps and then come back down south to graduate. 15-20 miles minimum.

Not a single area. If one hasn’t understood what the Corp or the military in general is all about by the 2nd & definitely the 3rd month of training, one week here or there isn’t going to make a difference.

You either got it, get it or ya don’t!!

Would love to see an entire week devoted to mount training that is mostly the fighting that the Marines are doing now and in the future.

Two areas I was a WASSI and the marksmanship coach as a collateral duty. I know that more emphasis has to be made about swimming pool you have to be able to swim in the Marine corps just in case for amphibious landings you know you don't know when you might be out in the ocean you have to know how to swim and a lot of guys would come to me and I wouldn't certify them and I would run out of time that's in the FMF. I'm still at some more marksmanship and combat firing. Because if they're not in the infantry they're not going to get very much more training on firearms they need to know how to survive in combat and feel comfortable with different types of firearms and in a combat atmosphere with high stress.

Personally, I think boot camp is the perfect length for being a basic marine. Now having gone to SOI I do think maybe you could add a week to that. I would say more with land nav and maybe add call for fire. I didn’t get decent at land nav until I learned call for fire in the fleet. Just my opinion.

Having done it and been there combined with what I know now I’d model the Corps to more resemble the
Royal Marine Commandos in terms of fitness.
