Diving Deep with John Piper's Final Justifaction

“Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you shall be saved.” I rest in that. Piper’s assertion that faith only gets God “on our side” and that works (how many? How pure?) are required to get us into Heaven is nothing but Roman Catholicism without the hope of purgatory.

I am in the last 100 pages of PROVIDENCE by John Piper. I have loved the entire book until he starts pressing believers to work for final salvation. If ever anyone could articulate works salvation it is John Piper— but he is definitely not promoting the assurance that comes with the doctrine of justification by faith that is taught so clearly in the gospel of John.

Sorry, Dr. White, but Piper, in his video " Does James Contradict Paul, at both 8:08 and 9:55, Piper asks "How does one maintain an ongoing and FINAL right standing with God?....How does he maintain and warrant and have assurance that he is right with God, and that he will be right with God at the end of the age? ...as an ongoing and FINAL right standing with God, does justification DEPEND on the works of love?"

I know I'm late to the party but I just finally heard Piper explain this on one of his Battling Unbelief videos. It was kind of confusing and the more I looked into it the more I realize what he is meaning. I agree with you James. Thanks for articulating what your understanding is. It helped a lot.

Also Piper wasn't talking about 'demonstration of faith' through works.

No, Piper doesn’t seem to be dealing with the justification of God. He is dealing with how Jesus will judge men, and men will be given eternal life, or not, based on their deeds, and not by faith alone. “Blessed are you, because I was hungry and you fed me, I was naked and your clothed me…”, etc,

Why is Dr James and Dr Piper not buddies ? It’s not like I want them to be but is there any kind of conviction difference between them or is just like they never happen to meet and talk together... ? But In a greater sense yes they are more than brothers at heart but since Dr James says he won’t be invited to John Piper events I am just curious that’s all..

Calvinism destroys Christians Faith and keeps unsaved people from obtaining salvation. White oozes pride and is to smart for his own good, if only he understood the simplicity in Christ
